This year our Homecoming dance is at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. This is way cool, especially considering all the exhibits will be open. However, the museum part can be overwhelming. So, here at Her Campus we’ve helped to break down each floor and let you know where things are to ease you in your Rock Hall experience. There is so much at the Rock Hall we can’t write it all, so we’ve chosen one thing from each floor to check out.
Level One
Legends of Rock and Roll
This is very important. If you’re going to look at one exhibit, definitely make it this. You’ll find stuff from a lot of VERY IMPORTANT musicians, but here’s where you’ll find what I know you all are dying to see: Queen Bey. Here, you will find her Single Ladies Glove, 2013 Superbowl lace and leather bodysuit, dress and boots from the Run the World video, AND MORE. Flawless. Try very hard not to faint at the sight of the very garments that graced Her flesh.
Level Two
Architects of Rock and Roll
This highlights three less traditional inductees in the Hall of Fame: Sam Phillips, Les Paul, and Alan Freed. Sam Phillips founded the recording studio where tons of legends, including Elvis, recorded. In the exhibit they’ve recreated the studio featuring many of the original artifacts. Alan Freed was a DJ, more specifically, the first DJ to use the term “Rock and Roll.” He spent time in Cleveland, and the exhibit focuses on that time in his career. Lastly, Les Paul is here. If you know anything about guitars you know Les Paul. If you don’t you probably still know Les Paul. There are, obviously, a lot of guitars in this exhibit, including his first guitar he got as a child.
Level Three
Hall of Fame
This level is home to the actual Hall of Fame rather than the museum. Mostly this entails video of all the inductees. You’re probably not going to be interested in that during the dance, BUT also on this floor is a glass panel with the signatures of the inductees. Check that out and see what famous John Hancocks you can find.
Level Four
Inductees Jukebox
Not much on this floor, but if you want to play DJ for a while check out the inductees jukebox.
Levels Five and Six
The Music Festival Experience
This exhibit is the current featured exhibit for the Rock Hall. For a period of time, fans were able to vote for the best music festival moments to be included in this exhibit. So, they compiled them and created an exhibit designed to pull you into that experience. On the first level they show you the history of music festivals and look at festivals such as Woodstock, Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Electric Daisy Carnival. On the second floor they try to immerse you in the feel of a music festival by replicating a music festival tent. They have screens to play clips of performances and other sights and sounds of a music festival. The light is even set up to simulate day turning into night as it does at a real festival. If you are able to check out this exhibit, it’s one that should be interesting. If you have the opportunity, check it out.
This is nowhere NEAR all of the exhibits at the Rock Hall; entire galleries have been left out of this recap. If you are really interested in exploring Friday night, absolutely take a look online for yourself to see what you want to hit. Shoutout to everyone who helped make this a possibility. It should definitely a memorable night.
