Snapshot: The John Carroll Bust
Seeing as the name of our school is John Carroll University, I think it’s best to know why our school is named after Archbishop John Carroll, and the significance of his statue here on campus. For one, JCU is a Jesuit school, and John Carroll held the Jesuit beliefs of striving for excellence, pursuing justice, respect, developing ourselves as a whole, reflecting “The Greater Glory of God” and responsibility very close to heart.
As freshmen in college, many of us are scared, away from home for the first time, and afraid to branch out. I felt this way when my mom dropped me off at the end of August, and wasn’t sure how to be on my own without a strict routine. Once classes started, I began to realize that John Carroll stays true to its founder’s beliefs, for each professor I’ve had wants to see their students grow academically and responsibly. As we walk by his statue on our way to class in the morning, we our constantly reminded of our faith and what we stand for as students of a Jesuit school.
