With Earth Day being this past Saturday, I wanted to share some tips and tricks on recycling in the city of Philadelphia!
- If you own or rent a home in Philly, you qualify to get free city-provided recycling containers! All you have to do is pick up a recycling bin at one of the city’s sanitation convenience centers:
- 3901 Delaware Ave.Â
- 5100 Grays Ave.
- 2601 W. Glenwood Ave.
- 3303 S. 63rd St.
- Domino Lane and Umbria St.
- State Rd. and Ashburner St.
- Always check phila.gov to know when your recycling will be collected! Residents are welcome to bring their bins out between 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. October through March, and from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. April to September.
- Don’t put any plastic bags in your recycling bin! The recycling is sorted by a machine and plastic bags ruin this process by getting stuck.
- The following items are recyclable:
- PlasticsÂ
- Glass
- PapersÂ
- Cartons
- Metals
- CardboardsÂ
- If you see a trash truck taking your recycling bin by accident, If you see the wrong truck taking your recycling, call 215-686-5444 or email recyclingoffice@phila.gov.
- According to phila.gov, these are items that DO NOT belong in your recycling bins:
- Food and food-soiled materials
- Disposable plates, cups, and takeout containers
- Greasy or food-soiled paper and cardboard
- Styrofoam™
- Batteries and electronics
- Needles and syringes
- Clothing hangers
- Tissues, paper towels, and napkins
- Pots, pans, and ceramics
- Wood
- Plastic bags
- Shredded paper
Less garbage ends up in our landfills when we recycle. It also reduces litter to keep our community clean and healthy.Â
