Days full of high 50s have given me a taste of spring, and I cannot wait. Out of excitement for the warmer days ahead, my friends and I have resumed the weekly ice cream trips we used to take in the fall. However, this semester, we have a new favorite ice cream spot: Tubby Robot Ice Cream Factory on Main Street, Manayunk.

Tubby Robot is perfect for even cold weather ice cream cravings, being open all year round. Tubby Robot is open from 12 pm to 9 pm Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and until 10 pm Friday and Saturday. It was founded by two middle-school friends from Philadelphia. From inside the shop, customers can sit at a counter and use a giant joystick to play a featured weekly video game on the TV in the alley right outside, inspired by the owners’ love for video games.
The ice cream parlor has a rotating selection of delicious flavors made in the shop, ranging from Mexican Chocolate (spiced with cayenne pepper!) to Banana, and even a dairy free Chocolate Coconut. They even use local ingredients! My personal favorite is the Sea Salt Caramel, a perfect blend of sweet and salty.

Tubby Robot does not stop at its delicious flavors, with a wide variety of toppings, cones, and sundaes available. Tubby Robot’s hand-made waffle cones cannot be ignored, with a cinnamon-like spice and filled with chocolate at the bottom. I also have to rave about their Cookie Doughverload Sundae! I am obsessed with cookie dough, and Tubby Robot’s handmade edible cookie dough is a perfect partner to their ice cream, complete with whipped cream and hot fudge.

Tubby Robot Ice Cream Factory is located less than a 10 minute drive from campus with a convenient public parking lot just a few shops down. Next time you are looking to satisfy your own sweet tooth, Tubby Robot is most certainly the place to go!
