Do you want to hear something scary? Halloween might be dying!! Oh no!

As of October 20, 2022, the Twitter post from user @aliyahInterlude about Halloween has reached over 112K likes and 11.2K retweets. As quoted:

“halloween rlly isn’t giving this year, where is the haunted houses?? the decorations?? the halloween spirit  ?!?”

So, what is the deal with Halloween? Is it as lackluster this year as the tweet suggests, and how did this come to be? Many people have proposed that a combination of inflation, the lingering effects of the pandemic, and the weather have messed up the Halloween vibes this year.

Scary, right?

Inflation has had a tremendous impact on everyone this year. Gas prices were soaring earlier this year and the basic cost of living has also skyrocketed – making it impossible for some to even buy groceries. People may be prioritizing their needs over decorating their houses and taking part in Halloween. This may mean less candy this year, less emphasis on costumes, and boring decorations outside of houses. It makes you think: In moments of hardship – will culture and holidays die out? Or do holidays persist throughout this period of financial hardships? Do people continue to celebrate in spite of everything for a semblance of joy? I surely don’t know the answer and I also may be slightly exaggerating the extent of the state of the world, but this tweet although quite innocuous in nature brings up some good questions.

As a treat, I will say that this is a little exaggerated and only meant to scare you. Here, have a treat: 🍭Who cares if the houses this year are a little boring? That doesn’t stop the candy from coming so go out and have fun this year! Halloween is a holiday for all ages to enjoy and this economic state we are in will most likely not last forever. So, trick or treat and stay warm this Halloween! 🎃
