This week’s post is going to be slightly different. I went to Her Campus’s College Fashion Week in DC a few weeks ago where they showcased four trends for the season. Walking around campus, I realized that I saw students incorporating those trends into their outfits. This week, I will be showcasing students who were wearing those very styles.
Feminine Minimalism: Feminine clothing in a paler color palette. Think floral prints in soft pinks and ivories.
10/29/15: Cherry Han
Cherry’s trench is beautifully feminine with the addition of the bow belt. The pale pink of the coat (a different and striking color compared to the usual neutrals) lends itself to the femininity. However, her outfit is simple, allowing the trench to stand out.
Menswear: Fairly self-explanatory. Think blazers, button-downs, and comfortable clothing.
11/4/15: Xiao Yu
Xiao’s striped button-down shirt has touches of masculinity in it. Her dark red sweater is looser fitting, as male clothing tends to be. These days, females tend towards skinny jeans so Xiao’s looser fitting jeans scream comfort (who hasn’t struggled to get into a pair of skinny jeans?). Her overall look has touches of menswear it in, but she looks so comfortable.
11/5/15: Victoria Yeh
Victoria’s leather jacket immediately stands out as menswear. It’s tough yet sleek. The gray shirt was a great decision because white would have been too stark of a contrast whereas the gray is less harsh. Her haircut is very unique—it works perfectly with her outfit.
11/9/15: Raegan Hensley
Menswear is often associated with comfort (who doesn’t love the ease of boyfriend jeans?) and Raegan looks so comfy in her outfit. With her gray-green sweater picking up the forest greens in her jeans, the gray of her vest, and her weather-friendly boots, her outfit is very put together. I love how Raegan matches the colors of her outfits so that they compliment each other perfectly.
70’s Boho: Fringe, flowy fabrics, and organic patterns bring back the 70’s.
11/6/15: Jianna Cresey
Jianna’s dress is absolutely gorgeous. It’s loose fitting and the paisley pattern at the hem creeping up the dress is very pretty. By throwing her braid over her shoulder, she adds to the boho feeling of her outfit, a perfect addition.
90’s Grunge: Plaid and dark colors unite to throw us back to the 90’s.
11/9/15: Jessica Cohen
The red and black plaid button down is a classic combination, and she picks up the black of her pants in the shirt. The brown boots add some contrast and prevent the look from being too black. The rolled up sleeves give is a disheveled yet polished feel.
11/11/15: Rebecca Anderson
Rebecca’s outfit is a paler take on grunge. The white of her shirt repeats in the plaid and the torn jeans. The unbuttoned plaid gives it a casual, laidback feel and the torn jeans only accentuate the look. I love that she rolled up jeans just slightly above her boots.
My Pick:
Rebecca’s outfit is my pick! All the little details, (the torn jeans, the complimenting colors) work well and really pull the entire outfit together.
