Getting back into the swing of things after spring break has ended is typically one of the more difficult parts of second semester. It usually involves a lot of bargaining with oneself and making a lot of promises that will most certainly be broken within twenty minutes of them being made. If you’re worried about what life might look like after you give up on all of those lofty expectations, never fear because below are six of those realities and all of them are pretty swell.
1. Expectation: “My professors will ease me back into the semester.’”
Reality: Despite having had midterms the entire week before break, your professors have decided that there’s certainly no rest for the weary (or recently well-rested students fresh off of spring break). You’ve got more papers, test, and projects due now than during finals week last semester. Â
2. Expectation: “I’m going to get in shape so that I can be ready for Summer 2016.”
Reality: Campus Cookies are a lot closer to your dorm than UREC will ever be. In fact, they’re outside with your order as we speak.
3. Expectation: “After staying in all week with my parents, I’m going to spend all weekend living it up.”
Reality: But wait, ABC Family is having it’s Harry Potter marathon this weekend. Maybe I’ll aim to go out all of next weekend instead…
4. Expectation: “I’m so excited to get to pick my meals instead of just eating whatever my parents made for dinner.”
Reality: After your fourth trip to the same dining hall in the past thirty-six hours, you’re missing the famous family recipes that had been placed in front of you for the past week.
5. Expectation: “Now that I’m back at school, I’ll totally get ahead on all of the schoolwork I didn’t do.”
Reality: You’re just as unmotivated as you were over break. Plus, Netflix added a bunch of new shows at the beginning of March that you’re still trying to catch up on. Besides, who really needs school anyways?
6. Expectation: “I’m actually going to finish all of those internship applications I didn’t start.”
Reality: Filling out internship apps takes a lot of time, even with the Chrome auto-fill setting. Your hands are cramping just at the thought of updating your resume and cover letter.
