College is a wonderful time to explore and discover the campus around you. A common question asked by incoming students is, “Do I need a car?”, and the answers they get can vary. As a freshman, there really was no choice for me to have a car, but as an upperclassmen without one, I’ve experienced the Good, the Bad, and the Walking.
The Good:
You get to know the campus better: Walking requires you to know your way and figure out the shortcuts to your classes.
No need for a parking pass: You never have to worry about getting a parking ticket.
Environmentally friendly: You’re minimizing your ecological footprint by taking public transportation.
Never having to fight for a parking spot: Face it: finding a parking spot is like the Hunger Games.
Never having to pay for gas: Now you have extra money for other activities.
The Bad:
Always having to ask for people for rides: Face it: sometimes you’re just too lazy to walk to a place, and it might be too far for public transportation.
The weather: Sometimes Mother Nature isn’t on your side; she may hit you with an unexpected heatwave or downpour (anything is possible with JMU weather).
Planning your day to a bus schedule: Sometimes you just don’t have the time for that.
The Walking:
Everyday is leg day: Your legs are going to be LEGendary.
An epic walking playlist: Prepare to make an epic playlist that makes you feel like you’re in a movie.
Always reaching your steps for your Fitbit: the Proclaimers and Vanessa Carlton would be proud of you.
In the end, there are two kinds people in the world: those with legs and those who are resourceful.
