May 1st will clearly go down in American history as a historic day.
I was taking (another) break from one of my many
essays, as my roommate was watching TV in the next room
over, we suddenly heard “Special Report!” blare from our television. The rest of my suitemates and I stayed, transfixed, in front of the screen as news anchors reported on Osama Bin Laden’s death. Words and phrases like “wow,” “oh my god,” and “can you believe that” passed our lips as we thought about what this event meant.
All of us then began reminiscing on where we were on September 11th and what it had meant to us. We were not among the other students that took to dancing in TDU or shooting off fireworks in Copper Beech, but this event captivated us for the rest of the evening. President Obama’s address was eloquent, genuine, and respectful and he seemed to grasp the gravity of this event on the global scale. It amazes me that history has literally unfolded itself in front of our eyes, on finals week no less.Â
