How to Transform Your Look From Campus Casual To Fun Night Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

It’s always fun exploring different ways to combine pieces in your wardrobe to create fresh new looks.  I find that I am constantly doing this here at JMU when classes end, and always end up frantically searching my closet (and those of my friends) for fun nighttime wear!

The best pieces in a girl’s wardrobe are the ones that can be worn day and night. Around campus, I find that the majority of girls like to keep their looks cute and simple yet pulled together. Jeans, a patterned knit top and cardigan, paired with a comfortable pair of boots, is the perfect on-campus look for Fall.  To spice this look up for a night out – it’s simple: ditch the cardigan for a blazer, add fun accessories, and put on a pair of heels! It really is that easy!

Leggings are a JMU girl’s best friend; especially during the colder months as we trek from ISAT to the quad. When I’m feeling lazy, I like to pair leggings with a sweatshirt and call it a day. One way to transform this basic look is to add a long, flowy top, fashionable boots, and accessories. Now that summer is over, tank tops and minis won’t keep you warm during these chilly Harrisonburg nights. It’s possible to stay in style by layering your tanks with light sweaters and knee-high boots that provide some warmth for bare legs. It makes shopping a lot easier (and cheaper) when you find items that are versatile in different settings.  What’s your fashion staple this semester that is chic for both day and night?
