James Madison University is filled with students of different backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicity. Everyone has a different story, so taking a closer look at some students never fails to be and eye-opening discovery of who exactly we go to school with.
Meet Melanie Goossens, a freshman here at JMU majoring in Communications:
  1. What made you choose James Madison University?
The family-friendly community and overwhelming welcoming atmosphere.
  2. What’s your favorite place to eat on campus?
Festival for sure – 100% Cheese Please :)
   3. Where have you lived in the past and how does it compare to Harrisonburg?
I grew up in Virginia Beach, it’s much colder in Harrisonburg but the pretty mountain views make up for it.
   4. What’s one fun fact about you?
I’m actually first generation American with a Dutch background and accent.
   5. What advice do you have for any incoming freshman after surviving your first semester?
Definitely don’t slack in the beginning of the year, cause work will catch up to you. Take
your work and classes very seriously so you’re not as stressed at the end of the semester.
