1. What is Operation Beautiful?Operation Beautiful at JMU is an organization that focuses on positive body image, and we also raise awareness on all aspects of eating disorders. We spread our positivity through small acts of kindness, such as posting uplifting messages on sticky notes and compliment sheets in random places around campus. We are all about having a positive, healthy, and optimistic mindset.

2. How did you initially get involved with Operation Beautiful?I passed by a sticky note with an inspiring quote written on it, which made my day. After attending one meeting, I instantly knew that this organization was something I had to be a part of—I don’t regret my decision of joining such a beautiful club.

3. How has it been different being the President of the organization?Personally, I have grown as a leader with my position as President of OB. Because of this position, I have learned so much more about myself. I know I have much more responsibility in this organization, but my love for what we do and what we stand for has been the same.

4. What are some of the challenges you face in this leadership position? When I was a member, I never saw the real hard work that gets put into the organization. As a leader, there is so much “behind the curtain” work in order for the organization to be successful. There is an extra effort that needs to be put in, but with the help of my executive board, and even the members, the challenges don’t seem as big.

5. What is your favorite thing about your involvement in this group? We are not an organization that changes the world—we don’t even necessarily change the community as a whole. But my favorite thing to hear is when we make at least one individual’s day. Honestly, the little things matter, like the difference a small sticky note can make. If it can make just one person smile, then OB has been successful. I love the positivity we create as an organization.

6. Where do you see the organization heading in the next few semesters?I hope Operation Beautiful becomes a bigger and more well known organization on campus. We are still very new, and are trying to figure out our way around. But I do see us doing greater things, out in the community of JMU and in Harrisonburg as well.

7. Any promos or additional comments?!February is a big month for us since it is National Eating Disorder Awareness month. Look out for some of the big events that we are hosting such as an educational panel and the Rock Your Body concert at Clementine! And remember, JM(you) are beautiful!
