You’ve unpacked your sundresses, got a solid tan and did some borderline-creepy people-watching on the quad. Life is good! Whether you’re taken or casually dating, here are some great date ideas for when it’s just too nice out to do dinner and a movie…
Stroll the Arboretum
Take a leisurely walk through one of the Arboretum’s trails and take in the sights. Bask in the sun, draw, or take a picnic basket with you to make an afternoon of it with your crush. It’s pretty photogenic too (hey, who isn’t on the lookout for a new profile pic?).
Reddish Knob
This is probably Harrisonburg’s most beautiful viewpoint, so it’s super romantic to watch the sunset, or just hike on a nearby trail!
Quad Date
If you and your date’s wallets are as empty as mine is, it can be relaxing to just talk on the quad, toss a Frisbee, or try your hand at cornholing. If it’s not too dorky for you, you could even channel your inner child and fly a kite. Maybe you could even let the Kissing Rock earn its name…just a thought!
Purcell Park
This park is huge! For the athletic types, there are tennis and basketball courts, as well as a baseball field. For those who just want to hang out, there’s a walking trail, swings and a sweet playground (you’re never too old so long as no one’s looking). Purcell Park also has a little lake that you could fish in. If catching fish isn’t your thing, it’s pretty to look at too!
Kline’s
Who could forget Kline’s ice cream? Sure, there are usually only three ice cream flavors a day, but who cares? It’s delicious, and it’s a lovely (and cheap) way to end a fun-filled date.
Harrisonburg may be small, but there are still plenty of cute date options around town! Get creative and have fun out there, collegiettes. What’s your favorite outdoor date idea?
