She’s bold. She’s beautiful. And Baker wouldn’t be the same without her. The Sodexo employee, Laura Shanholtzer, always knows how to brighten someone’s day. She swipes our gold cards and puts a permanent smile on our faces with her sweet, genuine compliments. We decided to sit down with Laura to learn more about her life outside of Juniata.
Q: Are you married?
A: Yes, I’ve been married for 17 years. My husband’s name is Bruce.
Q: Do you have any children and/or pets?
A: We had a dog, but she died four years ago. We had her for 13 ½ years. We would get another dog because we love animals, but when we go away, we don’t want to put her in a kennel, so we decided to not get any more pets right now.
Q: How long have you been working at Juniata?
A: This is my 3rd year at Juniata. I started upstairs at Eagle’s Landing.
Q: Do you have any special hobbies?
A: I go garage selling. I like to do crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and we used to have motorcycles, so we used to go motorcycle riding, and that was a lot of fun. We went from New Jersey to Main once on our motorcycles, and it was beautiful!
Q: Do you have any fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?
A: I’m a kid at heart. I’m very animated. I like to make people laugh. I should be a comedian maybe because I’m so goofy.
Q: What do you enjoy most about Juniata?
A: The students. You all make me happy. I just love seeing you all.
Q: What advice would you give the women of Juniata?
A: Always stand by what you believe in. Always be kind to people. Always have manners, always be a lady, always be patient, and always give it 150% because it is a man’s world. Stay strong, and be true to yourself.
