There is no denying the fact that the condition of the environment is getting worse. With fast fashion being the world’s second most polluting industries. It is extremely important that both consumers and sellers become mindful of what they are buying and what impact it has in the world.
Many fashion stores have started to produce clothes which are fashionable and sustainable at the same time! Several clothing stores have started to implement the concept of reuse and recycle, encouraging customers to reuse and recycle their old clothes. Along with this, few brands are starting to move towards implementing an eco-friendlier attitude while making the clothes.
Below are few clothing stores which are eco-friendly, sustainable and are also giving back to the society by partnering with different organisations. These brands not only have amazing clothes but are extremely affordable specially for the student budget!
1. Zara
Zara aims to make all their clothes from 100% sustainable fabrics before 2025. With environmental damage increasing due to fast fashion, Zara has decided to use only cotton, linen and polyester which is organic, sustainable and recycled. The Join Life initiative started by Zara aims to sell clothes which are made from recycled wool, organic cotton and are animal friendly and environment friendly. Along with this, you can leave their old denims and other clothes from Zara which would then be cleaned and redistributed amongst charities they have partnered with such as the Red Cross.
2. ASOS recycled denim
We all love a good pair of denims. However, to make a single pair of jeans it takes more than 8000 litres of water! Which is extremely unsustainable. So, in order to overcome this problem, ASOS has come up with a new range of denims which are made from cotton sourced from Africa which doesn’t require as much water. The jeans are not only sustainable but also are an initiative to help improve the lifestyle of the cotton farmers in Africa.
3. Birdsong
Birdsong is a sustainable and eco-friendly label which also aims to provide better conditions for female garment workers working in garment factories. All the clothes are made from natural fibres and sustainable Tencel. This brand also minimises waste by doing limited edition clothes, pre-orders and turning remaining fabric into cute bags and scrunchies! Each piece of clothing is made by skilled women who are paid fair wage for their work. They aim to help women work and be paid fair wages and at the same time they want their pieces to make women feel more confident in themselves.
Ninety percent is another clothing brand which uses sustainable and eco-friendly products to make the every day clothing staples. 90% of its profits are distributed among different charities that focus on women empowerment, children and environment. So every time you buy a piece of clothing from here, you’re also donating to a charity at the same time!
We all love a good comfy jumper! Pull and Bear has recently started an initiative ‘Join life’ which promotes sustainable packaging by using 100% recycled paper, recycled plastics, etc. They also use sustainable raw materials to make clothes and thus reduce the environmental damage and protect the environment from getting ruined further.
These are just few eco-friendly, sustainable brands where you can buy affordable and fashionable clothes from without the worry that sustainable clothes are uncomfortable and not fashionable!
