When you hear the phrase “trickle-down,” you may be confused, no, I am not talking about economics, but instead fashion! Within the realm of fashion, a “trickle-down” refers to a trend making its way from the runways to the department store. Every season we see a couple of significant trends drip down into everyday fashion, for instance, last year’s denim on denim rage. This Fall is no different a handful of runway trends have found their way to us, so without further ado, here are five of those trends!
- 90’s Shoes
-
Looking back at the ’90s a forgotten treasure was definitely the shoes. You’ve got your Doc Martens, Jelly Sandals, Mary Janes, and just platform anything. We’ll thankfully they’re back this fall, in the final wave of reborn 90’s trends!
- Shades of Green
-
While deep greens are usually a staple of the fall season this year the fashion gods have decided to branch out into a sea of greens. We’re talking sage, olive, lime, and especially pistachio. These colors are worn as head to toe monochromatic outfits or just peaks of green like a green purse or green detailing on a shirt.
- Restructured Denim
-
For the past couple years we’ve seen the same thick, blue Levi’s look overtake the jean market, and I think we all know it’s getting a bit boring. But that’s where this trend comes in, shaking things up. Just imagine a world where jeans can be anything. Cheetah print, you got it! Asymmetric waist, hell yeah! That is the reality of Fall 2019, so buckle up for all the jean styles you can dream of from lace-up legs to corset waists.
- Romantic Grunge
-
For this trend, it’s all about mixing and matching, for the perfect combination of emo groupie and prairie girl chic. Think fishnets under a white ruffled dress with black leather boots or distressed black jeans, a white cardigan top, and a belt chain. Whether it’s a whole aesthetic or just one new piece that you play around with, it can be as simple or complex as you want it to be.
- Baguette Bags
-
I think we all remember the infamous Baguette bags of the ’90s and early 2000’s, always appearing in conjunction with low rise jeans and tiny tank tops. No matter if you remember or not they’ve come back as one of the first 2000’s revivals and are definitely here to stay. While they don’t have as much storage room as a tote bag, they have two times the aesthetic appeal; tiny, leather, and in any color imaginable.
Now just because these trends have cascaded down to everyday life doesn’t mean you have to bust your budget at Topshop or Urban Outfitters to keep up. Thankfully trends are never really new to fashion, like water they circulate, popping up again every couple of years. Due to that, I can attest that you don’t have to go any farther than your closest goodwill to pick up a baguette bag tossed out in the early 2010s, or a pair of Mary Jane’s that just weren’t cool enough in the age of Adidas and Reebok.
