Tis the season! The leaves are changing, the air is cooler and the coffee is pumpkin! There’s no better time to start binge-watching Gilmore Girls. If you’re anything like me, you’ve always wanted to live a life like Lorelai and Rory. I’ve compiled a list of 10 ways to embrace your inner Gilmore Girl this fall season. Trust me, as someone who’s seen the show 30+ times, I’m a professional!
- Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!
-
Staying caffeinated is a must! There’s no better way to stay warm than a nice cup of joe. Latte, americano, cold brew, whatever form you prefer is a good first step to channeling your inner Lorelai Gilmore.
- Go camping
-
Channel your inner Luke Danes and sleep in a tent for the weekend! Waking up to the sounds of birds chirping and drinking coffee by the fire in a red and orange wonderland is the best way to relax and unwind. Not a camping girly? Thats okay! Have a campfire with friends or if you seriously hate the outdoors, make a microwave s’more.
- movie night and takeout
-
A staple in the Gilmore household is movie nights with endless amounts of takeout and junk food. Grab your favorite snacks, door dash Chinese food and plop on the couch with your favorite movies. Personally I think classic horror movies are the best way to get into the Halloween mood but, if horror isn’t your thing then Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus will work too.
- Listen to new music
-
Put your favorite headphones on and jam out to something new this Autumn. Of course, Lane Kim would suggest classic rock, but if you’re strictly a Taylor Swift and Harry Styles girl, that’s okay too! If you want some music suggestions, I’ve compiled a playlist of my favorite songs that make me feel like I’m roaming the streets of Stars Hollow. Ignore all the sad songs, I listen to them while I mourn how much better Lane’s story should’ve been. #justiceforLaneKim
- Go on a road trip
-
If you have a free weekend, gather up some friends (or your mom) and hop in the car! Sometimes the spontaneous trips with no destination are the best. When you get tired, find your very own Dragonfly Inn to spend the night. PS: My Spotify playlist would be the perfect road trip soundtrack, just saying.Â
- Cook a 5 course meal
-
Just kidding, if you’re like me, you live in a residence hall on campus with no kitchen. But, if you’re feeling creative head up to your hall’s communal kitchen and cook up something delicious. If you have your own kitchen, even better! I doubt your meals will compare to Sookie’s, but you may surprise yourself!
- Spend some time with your parents
-
Make some time this Fall to hangout with your parents. If your parents are a bit like Emily and Richard, then take some advice from Lorelai and bring your sense of humor. Nothing eases tension more then cracking a few jokes at the table. If all else fails, there’s always next week.
- Study!
-
This may seem obvious if you’re a current student however, there’s ways to make studying fun. Grab your poptarts, coffee and your favorite blanket and head to your desk. Light your favorite fall candle, or wax warmer for us dorm girlies and lock in. Switch from subject to subject when you get tired and make sure to get some sleep. Just try not to fall asleep on top of your books.
- Do karaoke
-
Karaoke is the best, seriously. Find your favorite restaurant that does karaoke night or lookout for events on campus that are having a karaoke night and sing your heart out. If you’re way too nervous to do it alone, do a duet with a friend! Just try to learn from Lorelai’s mistakes and don’t serenade your ex to a Whitney Houston song.
- Be kind
-
This may seem corny, but the biggest takeaway from watching the residents of Stars Hollow is how tight of a community they have. Even the grumpiest characters are kind at heart and their community is their second family. So, do something nice for someone else this Autumn. Buy your friend a cup of coffee, water your roommates plants and build the person you’re secretly in love with an ice-skating rink in their front yard. Just kidding. Just remember, even a small act of kindness to you can mean the world to someone else.
