Time is a strange, cruel thing. Four years have passed and here you are, a senior in your final semester of college. Your feelings can best be described as exciting, nauseating and sad. You forbid your friends to say the “g-word” (graduation) around you. When people ask you about your post-college plans, you twitch. We all know it’s happening. We all need to be mentally and emotionally prepared for this. Here are the stages all of us graduating seniors will go through:
Stage 1: Denial
“This isn’t happening. GRADUATION IS A MYTH.” This first stage is the door that opens up to a long hallway of numerous feelings, thoughts, facial expressions, sleepless nights, etc.
Stage 2: Questioning
You may ask yourself, “It hasn’t been four years has it? How did this happen? Do I need to find a job? Where will I live? WILL I BE IN A BOX?!” Nothing in this world makes sense anymore and everything is a lie. Help me, please.
Stage 3: Bargaining
“Alright here’s the deal, I’ll give you my first-born child if I don’t have to graduate. I’ll throw in my soul and a quarter to sweeten the deal. Take it or leave it. Please take it.” You believe this is an offer that no one can refuse, but they will.Â
Stage 4: Anger
“WHY AM I GRADUATING? THIS ISN’T FAIR,” you scream to the heavens.
Stage 5: Depression
“Leave me alone to think about my impending doom,” you say as you lay on your bed in complete darkness. You are overly dramatic, yet you will always find a way to justify it. You’re in a very delicate state and can only be comforted by food and Googling pictures of puppies.
Stage 6: Acceptance
After months of internal conflict, you finally accept your fate. Look out world; I have no idea what I’m doing. What a time to be alive, am I right?
Stage 7: More Denial
Just kidding, it was all a dream. Wasn’t it?
