2016 has been a great year for films, so far. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Deadpool and others have attracted many to theatres all over the world. It seems to be the year of movies that people are actually wanting to see. The good news is it’s only April, which means countless more movie releases throughout the year. Here is a list of a few of the most popular movies that will be coming out within the next few months.

This weekend is the premiere of Mother’s Day. If you were a fan of Valentines Day and New Year’s Eve, then you’re sure to love this movie because it was directed by the same guy, Gary Marshall. The cast includes a variety of well-known actors and actresses whose characters are all working to strengthen their relationships with their mothers or daughters. The release date is this Friday, April 29. It’s the perfect movie to go see with your mom this Mother’s Day.

If you’re a Marvel fan, then you’re probably excited about Captain America: Civil War. The plot is pretty self-explanatory; just look at the movie poster. Tony Stark (Iron Man) supports the Avengers being run by the government, while Steve Rogers (Captain America) feels that the Avengers should be free to defend humanity without government interference. Even if you aren’t a Marvel fan, who doesn’t love to look at Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.? This is also a great movie to see with your boyfriend if you’re in need of a date night. The movie comes out Friday, May 6.

I’m personally looking forward to the release of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising because Neighbors is one of my favorite movies. Besides getting to see Zac Efron shirtless and Seth Rogen slay yet another role, college students can relate on a deeper level about not being prepared for life after graduation. When the Radners finally feel like they defeated the fraternity brothers of Delta Psi, a sorority moves in next door. See  Zac Efron shirtless again Friday, May 20.

Who doesn’t love a good Tim Burton film? Okay, it’s not directed by Tim Burton, but it’s a sequel of a Tim Burton film and that’s almost just as good. Alice through the Looking Glass is a sequel of Alice in Wonderland. Alice finds a looking glass that leads her back to Wonderland where she meets up with old friends. Unfortunately, the Mad Hatter does not seem himself, and Alice is sent on a quest back in time to help save him before it’s too late. This film stars Sacha Baron Cohen as the evil villain named Time. The movie is scheduled to release Friday, May 27.

This one is for all of our horror film fans. The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Experiment looks even scarier than the first movie, if that’s possible. The horror genres’ favorite couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren, are back to help a single mother with her London home that is plagued by demons. This is also a great movie date if you’re looking for a reason to get close to your loved one. The movie comes out on Friday, June 10.

If you haven’t been waiting for the premiere of this movie since it was anounced back in 2013, then you aren’t human. Ellen Degeneres is back as everyone’s favorite fish in Finding Dory. When Dory remembers she may have a family who is looking for her, she, Marlin and Nemo head out on another adventure with some other friendly fish to find it. This movie is sure to trigger some flashbacks of being a child and going to the theatres to see Finding Nemo. It’s scheduled to come out on Friday, June 17.

In my opinion, you don’t need to be a thriller or horror film fan to enjoy this one. The Purge: Election Year is about a woman running for office with the promise of getting rid of the purge. Of course, society goes through another purge and complications arise. I have high hopes for this movie after the success of the previous two. Hopefully we aren’t let down. The movie is scheduled to come out on Friday, July 1.

Who doesn’t love Melissa McCarthy (or anyone from SNL)? Ghostbusters features McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones and looks funny as hell. Ghosts invade Manhattan, and the four women team up to try and save the city. Of course they have no clue how to handle defeating ghosts, which makes it all the more funny. The movie is scheduled to release on Friday, July 15.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children looks like a great movie, and I am ashamed to say I haven’t read the book. It’s on my summer reading list. Jacob Portman discovers a refuge for people with powers, known as Miss Peregrine’s home. He soon learns that evil lurks and that he needs to be careful with whom he can trust. Even without reading the book, I can tell it’s going to be a good movie. The release date is Friday, Sept. 30.

Fantastic Beasta and Where to Find Them is based off of a book written by J.K Rowling. I will take a moment to let Harry Potter fans rejoice. The movie takes place in New York City seven years before the Harry Potter saga starts. It follows the journey of a Hogwarts textbook writer who is traveling to discover and document magical creatures (the textbook is called “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”). While it doesn’t include any of the characters we are fimilar with from the Harry Potter movie series, you’ll recognize some names and locations. The movie is scheduled to premiere on Friday, Nov. 18.

While all these new releases look interesting, these are the ones you’re going to want to see in theaters. Make sure you stock up on your candy and drinks to smuggle into the theater and save up for that popcorn.
