Traveling, fashion and Alpha Phi are just three of Naiya Kapadia’s favorite things. She is this week’s Her Campus Kent State profile. The 20-year-old Boston native is a junior majoring in fashion merchandising and minoring in photo illustration. Take a look at who Naiya is and what she is up to this winter break and next year.
Her Campus: Why did you decide to come to Kent State University?
Naiya Kapadia: KSU was one of the top three fashion schools in the nation and wanting a future in fashion, I thought this was the perfect university for me. Also, the student body is heavily involved in Greek life and other student organizations, so that was a major determining factor for why I chose Kent State.
HC: Do you work or are involved in any campus organizations?
NK: Alpha Phi Sorority, Fashion Student Organization, writer for CollegeFashionista and I work at the KSU Ice Arena as a Guest Services Representative and Marketing Assistant.
HC: Why did you decide to write for CollegeFashionista?
NK: Writing for CollegeFashionista was going to allow me to merge my love for fashion and photography through writing for this blog.
HC: What do you write about?
NK: I personally love writing about what trends my friends are following. They have a great sense of style and always have the perfect outfit in plan for any occasion.
HC: Who is your biggest fashion icon and photography icon? Who inspires you?
NK: My fashion icon is most recently Gigi Hadid. I don’t really have a particular photography icon, but my dad inspires me because he’s a photographer.Â
HC: What do you plan on doing after college?
NK: I plan on living in a studio apartment in New York City and getting my first job in the fashion industry as a creative operations manager (social and digital) for Bobbi Brown.
HC: What is your absolute dream job?
NK: My dream job is to have a partnership with a high-end luxury cosmetics brand, such as Smashbox or Estee Lauder, and collaborate with them to have my own line within that brand.
HC: What is you favorite memory at Kent State so far?
NK: Putting together Red Dress Gala last year, where we were lucky enough to raise over 47,000 dollars for the Alpha Phi Foundation that raises awareness and supports Women’s Heart Health.
HC: Are you doing anything fun over winter break?
NK: I will be traveling to France this upcoming winter break and will be spending my Christmas and New Years in the beautiful city of Paris. I will be doing a lot of exploring in France, but also in other neighboring countries such as Switzerland, Ireland and the Netherlands.Â
HC: Anything interesting on your Christmas list this year?
NK: KyShadow Palette in Burgandy, Michael Kors Handbag, Steven Madden Ankle Boots, Unlimited sushi and chocolate covered strawberries.
HC: What are you looking forward to next semester?
NK: The Red Dress Gala! It really means a lot to me and hits close to home. I hope that we can raise even more for the cause this year. Also, my birthday is January 18.
HC: That is exciting! Any big plans for your 21st ?
NK: Probably just have a birthday dinner with friends and step foot in the bars for the first time in my life.
HC: Lastly, what is one interesting fact about yourself that no one really knows about?
NK: I do not have my license and I do not know how to drive.
