The annual Oscars happened a few weeks ago, and while a lot of people were focused on the Will Smith slap, I couldn’t stop thinking about the looks of the night. Like every celebrity red carpet, there were tons of articles written about the worst and best dress at the event, and personally, I believe a lot of these articles got it all wrong.
I don’t know who is writing the Daily Mail articles for Snapchat but wow: they really blew my mind with how incredibly wrong their worst and best-dressed lists were.
I’m fully aware that fashion is subjective, but…yeah, no it was just wrong. I truly think bias for the wearers was a big factor for these article writers, so I will be unbiased in my judgments, focusing only on the outfits.
Here are my best and worst dressed of the night:
Lily James in Versace
This look absolutely blew me away. I’ve been dreaming of this perfect pink moment since she stepped out and wow…it’s just incredible.
Timothée Chalamet in Louis Vuitton
Now, this is going to be controversial but I’m going to say it: the women of red carpets have to try so hard to impress without going too far and being called out for showing too much skin. This is why this look fell flat for me.
While I love Timmy, him just not wearing a shirt and wearing a jeweled blazer just didn’t do it for me, and if he were a woman people would be running to put them on the worst dressed list. Just saying. The look is pretty, just nothing new. But at the very least, thank you for not wearing a regular black tux, Tim. At the very least.
Zoë Kravitz wearing YSL
These pink gowns are really getting my attention this year: they’re just so beautiful. I’m usually not a fan of statement-piece bows, but this monochromatic look was perfect and the silhouette looks great on Zoë.
Kristen Stewart in Chanel
Oh god, where do I begin??? Chanel really cannot pull off a red carpet look to save their life. Kristen, baby, why would you let them do this to you??
Zendaya
THIS SKIRT ???? ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. I love it. The bracelets?? Stunning. The shirt? Ehhh… but still, so good. I’d give this look a 7/10, -3 just for the shirt that I think downplays the beauty of the look. BUT THE SKIRT- just wow.
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker in Mugler and Maison Margiela
These looks fell flat for me, the dress just wasn’t what I would wear to the Oscars, and I think compared to her other red carpet looks recently, this is at the bottom. I usually love an all-black look, but this was just boring.
Kodi Smit-McPhee in Bottega Veneta
Pastel dream!! I love a good monochromatic look. And on the red carpet, the color popped so well. The long blazer looks fantastic and the fit is just beautiful.
Jacob Elordi in Burberry
B-O-R-I-N-G. Next.
Rachel Zegler in Dior
I love this look. A see-through dress moment is one of my favorites, keep them coming.
Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé
This was the look that led the Daily Mail’s best-dressed list. This.
It’s a mess, in my humble opinion. It’s ill-fitting, the random poof in the middle is gross and the GIANT bow in the back is tacky. Not it, not it.
Becky G in Etro
This dress is a stunner. The sparkle, color, pockets, all of it. I love the minimum jewelry, it really makes this look pop.
Amy Schumer in Oscar de la Renta
Merry Christmas.
Jessica Chastain in Gucci x2
I don’t like this dress. The ombre’s colors are weird and the top doesn’t look very good to me.
Now, this dress… beautiful. Show-stopping. Incredible. I wish she wore this to the red carpet instead of the after-party.
Maddie Ziegler in Giambattista Valli
This dress looks like it’s trying to eat her.
Sofia Carson in Giambattista Valli
This is one of the best looks of the night. A beautiful Cinderella moment with a gorgeous corset top wrapped in tulle. What more could you want??
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada
Merry Christmas part 2.
Billie Eilish in Gucci
The dress looks like a giant trash bag.
Dakota Johnson in Gucci
I didn’t think I was going to include any after-party looks but I have to leave you with this absolute piece of art. The sparkles and feathers are stunning and Dakota looks beautiful in this incredible dress.
The Oscars had a lot happen that I will not include, but the fashion is what truly draws me to this event anymore. I love seeing what everyone wears, even if I don’t necessarily like the look.
This is all my opinion, don’t be mad at me!!
Much love, Emilee <3
