Coco Chanel, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta- these names are recognized around the world as some of the most renowned designers of all time. To have her name known worldwide is a dream of Megan Musci, a sophomore Fashion Design student at Kent State University. Megan has always taken pride in dressing well and showing off her style, making her perfect for our Style Spotlight. Megan’s dream job is to own her own high fashion clothing line and start her own business, opening up stores, and selling her designs across the world. She is hoping to get a job as a stylist or work on a design team to get her start in the fashion world.

HerCampus (HC): Why do you want to get into fashion?
Megan Musci (MM): Fashion is my biggest passion. I can see myself working with fashion every day for the rest of my life and not complain about it, or dread going to work. I have always used my personal style to express myself, and I want to spend my life helping other people learn how to express themselves through their clothes.
HC: How would you describe your personal style?
MM: I really like Bohemian and Edgy styles. I like to take a certain look and add an edge to it to make it my own. I also mix and match a lot. I’ll take part of an outfit from one store and mix it with part of an outfit from another store. When I mix and match my clothes, I think it gives them a personal touch and makes them unique to me.

An Outfit to Wear to Class
MM- This outfit is inspired by the typical school girl or school uniform look. The varsity style cardigan gives it an athletic look and makes it look a little more laid back. The shoes have studs on them to add an edgy look, which is part of my unique style.
Megan’s Tip: Dress to be comfy for class, but also remember it’s easy to look fashionable and comfy at the same time. You can play up the outfit with accessories or by following whatever trends are in. For example, jogger pants; they’re super comfy and also in style at the moment.

Date Night Outfit
MM- You want to dress to impress, but dress to impress yourself. An A-Line dress extenuates your waistline, and adding a blazer gives the whole outfit a classy look. I like wearing heels (but don’t feel like you need to on a date), and the heels make it a little more dressy. I also love bows, which is expressed on my dress
Megan’s Tip: Heels will make your legs look longer and make them look better overall. If you don’t like heels wear flats- you won’t look stupid trying to walk if you don’t have experience walking in heels, and they’re more comfortable.
Girls Night Outfit
MM-I can really express myself and my style on a girl’s night, and it’s a fun excuse to dress up. The white dress reflects my Bohemian style, but the lace give its texture. I added a fur vest because they are a trend right now, and coordinating my heels and clutch pulled everything together.
Megan’s Tip: When in doubt, ask your girlfriends for their opinion! A second eye might catch something that looks off, or they might be able to suggest something else to add.
Gym Outfit
MM- A gym outfit is a gym outfit. Whether you are in running leggings or shorts, an athletic tee or a running tank, the main point is to get in a good workout. I personally like bright colors. Working out sucks, and wearing brighter colors makes me happier. I’m more motivated to go when I’m in a good mood, so I wear something colorful.
Megan’s Tip: Comfort is key!! At the end of the day you’re there to work out, not walk the runway. No one looks cute after a successful workout.
Casual Outfit
MM-Â Leggings or jeans make an outfit casual. I personally like high wasted jeans. I wore a basic gray tee, but the silhouette (small slits in side) gives the shirt more body. It is simple and comfy, yet looks more put together than a plain tee. The colored jeans add more to the outfit than plain denim would have.
Megan’s Tip: Adding accessories can make a plain outfit dressier. It takes very little effort to grab a necklace or a pair of earrings, and it makes the outfit look more complete.
Every day “Arm Candy”
MM-Â I wear these bracelets and this watch almost every day because they go with pretty much everything. My watch is Michael Kors with a leather band and studs. The studs add an edge, which represents my unique style. The bracelets are Alex and Ani. I like how you can mix and match them and stack them with other bracelets. They are made in the USA and proceeds go to different charities across America. I love the charms on Alex and Ani bracelets; each one is different and represents something that means a lot to you. Both the watch and the bracelets are easy to add to any outfit to accessorize it and will catch your eye without being too distracting.
Megan’s biggest tip? Whenever inspiration strikes or you think of something that might look good together, put the outfit together right away. Lay it out, try it on, and see if it works. Add accessories and shoes, take away the parts that don’t work as well as you pictured, and figure out what works. Even if you don’t wear it that day, you’ll have it for the future, which can save you time in the mornings.Â
