There are many things people think of when they think of Halloween. Costumes, jack-o-lanterns, movies, monsters, trick-or-treating. One of my favorite things about this time of year is the candy.

I think we all can remember a time when we were younger, going out trick-or-treating with our friends or family members. Marching through the cold weather in a costume that probably didn’t fit right, going door to door trying to fill your basket with the best Halloween candy. When you got back home at the end of a long night of candy collecting, you most likely took a look through your bag and were either excited or disappointed with some of the candy that you received. Here are what I think are the best and the worst Halloween candies of all time.

Best Halloween CandY

5. Butterfinger

Butterfingers are a delicious mix of peanut butter and chocolate- a classic combination that many candy-eaters know and love. Though they have this going for them, there is a big downside to eating a Butterfinger. The peanut butter in this candy tends to get stuck in your teeth for an uncomfortable amount of time. Though they are a good candy, Butterfinger is being placed at number five.

4. Kit Kat

Kit Kats are a decent Halloween candy. They are very simple, just chocolate and wafers, yet they are one of the favorites among many trick-or-treaters. They would not be my first choice, but I could never turn down a Kit Kat.

3. Twix

Personally, I love a good Twix. As a big caramel fan, Twix are one of my favorites and were always wonderful to receive on Halloween night.

2. Snickers

Between a Twix and a Snickers, I think Snickers would have to be the superior caramel-chocolate Halloween candy. Everything about a Snickers is amazing; the chocolate, caramel and peanuts combination is heavenly. Both the full-size and fun-size versions of this candy are delicious as well.

1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

I do not think that most people would be surprised by Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups being at the top of this list. They are a classic- the most superior peanut butter and chocolate combination. Being given a Reese’s when trick-or-treating on Halloween night was always like getting gold.

Worst Halloween CandY

5. Candy Corn

Candy corn is a very controversial Halloween candy. Some people are die-hard candy corn fans, and will forever defend the treat. Others practically despise candy corn, claiming it is one of the worst candies to exist. This is why I think it deserves the number five spot on this list.

4. Whoppers

I have never been a fan of Whoppers. At most I could probably eat a couple, but any more than that I hate. The chocolate is just not very good. This is a candy that I would often avoid.

3. Dum Dums

Though I don’t think Dum Dums are necessarily bad but they can be kind of disappointing to get for Halloween. The flavor variety is good, but the candy itself is just lackluster. In terms of suckers, I would much rather have a Tootsie Roll Pop.

2. Smarties

Smarties are a candy that I used to like as a kid, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized how bad they are. Smarties are basically just edible chalk, and we need to accept that. I would be very disappointed if I received a pack of Smarties while trick-or-treating.

1. Banana Laffy Taffy

Banana Laffy Taffy is possibly the worst candy to ever be invented. The banana flavor is so fake, and frankly just gross. Every other Laffy Taffy flavor is pretty tasty, it’s just the banana one that went wrong. I know that there are some people out there that do like this candy, but for me, it has to be the worst.

Regardless of what you think is the best or the worst Halloween candy, I think we can all agree that Halloween candy in general is very good, and the perfect treat for this time of year. I will definitely be stopping by the grocery store on the day after Halloween to get all of the discounted candy!
