American Kenyon Story

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

So there are two major events in American culture happening soon: 1) the Super Bowl, and 2) Valentine’s Day. The seasonally festive side of me dictates that I should heat up some queso dip in a bread bowl and/or watch The Bachelor. There’s one problem, though. I can’t stop watching American Horror Story.

I am not a horror person. I haven’t seen even the most mainstream horror movies—I got to the typewriter scene in The Shining before I made my friend turn it off.

But I LOVE this show. This new interest has undoubtably emerged because I am taking a class called “The Horror Film,” and reading and talking about horror films during the week makes me more curious than I have ever been. But I also love this show because you get to see Dylan McDermott’s butt—TWICE. His character may be frustrating, but I have no complaints there. And the acting is also really good, especially Taissa Farmiga, the actress who plays Violet.

So I would recommend that the next time you get home late and are waiting for Papi Juan’s to arrive, gather round your pals for a little late-night fright fest bonding—and then go run through the Gates of Hell at midnight. #senioryearbucketlisthayyy

Caroline Black is a senior Drama major at Kenyon College. In addition to co-founding and writing for her school's HC branch, Caroline is co-president of Beer and Sex, Kenyon's student-run freshman orientation program (and she enjoys making jokes about that title as much as you do). When she's not doing hippy-dippy acting warm-ups or volunteering with her service organization, The Archon Society, Caroline enjoys watching "Parks and Recreation" and dismaying her friends with terrible puns.
