Becca Foley (’20): Crocs & Corgis Enthusiast

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Name: Becca Foley

Year: First-year

Hometown: Wooster, Ohio

Major: NO FUCKING CLUE

Campus Activities: Ultimate Frisbee, The Collegian

Power animal: Sea otter

Favorite aisle in the grocery store: Oooo the bread aisle. Or coffee. I think it would be ideal if they were in the same aisle.

Hi Becca! Thanks for hanging out with me.

So you were a big gymnast and Ultimate Frisbee player in high school, but now you just play Ultimate. How’s the transition been?

I find myself missing gymnastics a lot, but I’m probably better off as a retired gymnast. I can always whip out a backflip, but gymnastics has taken such a toll on my body it’s probably best I am not continuing. I love Ultimate and I always have, but I am still recovering from a back injury (thanks, gymnastics) so I’m trying to ease back into running. It’s been a blast and I love the Ultimate team and I hope to be able to play at full speed by spring.

Listening to some of your Spotify playlists, I’ve noticed there’s a really wide variety of artists you like. What are some of your favorites?

I am a huge fan of Bob Dylan. Like, really huge. I own all his albums on vinyl and listen to the pretty frequently. I collect lots of vinyl, so I also listen to artists like Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Billy Joel, The Mamas & The Papas, and Paul Simon. More modern artists I enjoy are The Lumineers, Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Front Bottoms, The Head and the Heart, and Jack Johnson. I also listen to Pat Benetar as my guilty pleasure music. She’s amazing.

You’ve been quoted saying: “I’m bringing Crocs back.” Please elaborate.

Okay, I love Crocs. I have a royal blue pair decorated with Jibbitz that I wear pretty frequently; whether it’s to class or just walking around my dorm. They are so comfy and easy to slip on and off if I’m in a hurry. They are good for almost all seasons, but I probably can’t wear them out in the snow (sad face). I am not saying I’m trying to start a trend, but I do plan to gift Crocs to my friends for their birthdays. It’s going to be a thing, okay?

Any opinion on a particular number?

I have a conspiracy theory. If you don’t already think I am crazy, I have a vendetta against the number 57. It gives me chills just typing it. I believe the number is truly rooted in evil. My hatred began when I started noticing that when I wrote the number, the top of the 5 would always connect to the 7. It would fill me with rage. After that, I started seeing the number EVERYWHERE. It would be on billboards, in tweets, in books, and my phone percentage always ends up being 57% when I check it. Today, I went to a restaurant where they TV projected it was 57 degrees outside. Our bill was $57. To add to that, I just voted in the 57th presidential election, which has been quite the rough one. I could go on for hours, but just trust me on this one. You’re going to start to see that number everywhere.

What would be your perfect meal?

Waffles. Just plain belgian waffles and syrup, that’s all I could ask for.

What other hobbies do you have?

I am really into photography, specifically film photography. I love the idea of having raw, unedited prints that I can’t look at until I get them developed. I also do some digital photography, but I don’t always enjoy the effort it takes to go through excessive amounts of photos. Shooting film, I only have 24 photos per roll of film, so every photo I take has to be carefully thought out, which I think pushes me to be a better photographer because there’s only so much room for error.

A comment on corgis?

Corgis are the best dogs, hands down. I love those little four legged balls of fluff. It makes me so happy when people send me pictures of corgis and say, “this made me think of you.”

Thanks, Becca!
