An Interview with John Honey-Fitzgerald, Campus-Wide Man of Mystery

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

 Name:
John Honey-Fitzgerald
Class: 2012
Hometown: Norwalk, CT

Where does your name come from?
I am named after my grandfather, John Cleverdon Honey. In my last name, the Honey comes from my mom, and the Fitzgerald comes from my dad. I like to think that I got the best of both worlds!

Speaking of namesakes…there’s a rumor going around that you’re related to the Kennedys. Is this true?
According to Jake: “Ted Kennedy was my great great uncle three times removed on my mom’s side.”  Jake also claims that he is part Navajo, so I wouldn’t trust his thoughts on lineage.

So I hear one of your professor-given nicknames is J. Crew. Where does this nickname come from?
That particular nickname comes from Professor Pack, he’s the best!  I like to think that it’s a compliment on how I dress, but at the same time he’s definitely poking some fun at me.

You’re quite the big man on campus. What’s your favorite pick up line?
I wouldn’t say that I have any pick up lines, they usually don’t work. I am just myself and genuinely enjoy getting to know people!

I’d say that’s fair. Best place to take a girl on a date?
Anywhere she wants!  If she doesn’t have anything specific in mind, then a little family-owned and little known Italian restaurant!

Well you’re certainly not going to find that on campus. Where is your favorite place on campus?
The luxurious Duplexington Estate, of course.

What celebrity do you identify yourself with?
Leonardo DiCaprio!

I can see that, with the hair and all. Moving along, what is your major?
Philosophy!

Why did you pick philosophy as a major? I feel like that must get a lot of jokes.
I picked it because I believe that nothing is more important than understanding who we are and how the world works, and thinking about how we can make both ourselves and the world better.

Deep! What is your dream job when you get older?
I would love to be an actor.

Like Leonardo?
Precisely.

Well, what do you actually think you’ll end up doing when you get a job?
As of right now, I am planning on going to law school and becoming an attorney.

Any costume ideas for the upcoming Shock Your Mom party?
I have a pair of Superman underwear that are meant for an 8-year-old boy. My friend Chris and I have worn the same thing every year, and I think we have to stick to tradition for our last SYM.

At least now we won’t be shocked!

Ally Bruschi is a senior political science major at Kenyon College. She spent this past summer interning as a writer with both The Daily Meal, a digital media group  dedicated to "all things food and drink" and The Borgen Project, a non-profit organization that partners with U.S. policymakers to alleviate global poverty. Before entering the "real world" of jobs, however, Ally spent many summers as a counselor at an all-girls summer camp in Vermont, aka the most wonderful place on earth. A good book, a jar of peanut butter, a well-crafted Spotify playlist, and a lazy dog could get her through even the worst of days.
Caroline Black is a senior Drama major at Kenyon College. In addition to co-founding and writing for her school's HC branch, Caroline is co-president of Beer and Sex, Kenyon's student-run freshman orientation program (and she enjoys making jokes about that title as much as you do). When she's not doing hippy-dippy acting warm-ups or volunteering with her service organization, The Archon Society, Caroline enjoys watching "Parks and Recreation" and dismaying her friends with terrible puns.
