The Kenyon College Bookstore is the one stop shop for your ice cream, college swag, and anything you might need when the shuttle isn’t running. As a frequent shopper, I find myself mentally drooling over all of the cool things I would love to have in my possession, but don’t want to spend my money on. But, if you have a birthday present to buy, or want to treat yourself, you just might want to take a look at all the cool, (random) things the bookstore has to offer!
Here are some suggestions:
1. Out of Print – East Egg/West Egg Friend Necklaces“Let us learn to show our friendship for a man when he is alive and not after he is dead.”― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
What a better way to show your friendship than with an hommage to The Great American Novel?
Alternative: Madeline Shirt. In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines/ Lived twelve little girls in two straight lines…which now come on a shirt! I loved this show as a child and this, along with Out of Print’s other book-cover shirts, express a child-like style that I know I can hope to have for only so long.
2. Sloane Ranger – Nautical LanyardI’ve never used a lanyard often, but this nautical pattern has had my eye for a quite a while. This high-quality, classical design might just make me into a lanyard person.
3. Archie McPhee – Bigfoot Action FigureSome people say we live in the middle of nowhere here. We’re surrounded by forests, and rivers. Ohio has had a large number of Sasquatch Sightings, but in case you haven’t seen one yet, there’s always this action figure.
Alternative: In case you want a souvenir to honor the animals we see everyday, here’s a mug I’m quite a fan of.
4. Word Cloud ClassicsAs soon as the bookstore put these out, I was in love. Leatherbound books are beautiful on their own, but tied in with beautiful quotations and embossing, these would totally class up my bookshelf.
5. Quotable Journals – CaterpillarBlank journals are kinda my thing. Combined with my favorite (optimistic!) quotation, I would like to have this proudly on display, to write in, or to add to the many other half-filled notebooks, which I thoroughly enjoy.
6. Penguin Book Mug – Jane EyreI love tea and Jane Eyre. Win-win.
