If you have been on BookTok at all this year, I’m sure you already know that 2024 is a massive year for some really popular authors. Most notably, Sally Rooney, author of “Normal People” and “Conversations With Friends,” is releasing her newest novel, “Intermezzo.” Although “Intermezzo” is being talked about the most, there are so many authors who have new releases coming out that readers of all kinds can be excited about.

Blue sisters by coco mellors

You may have heard of the novel “Cleopatra and Frankenstein”, which was released in 2022 and had a brief stint in popularity on TikTok. “Blue Sisters” is the newest from Mellors and one that I’ve been looking forward to for a while since I follow Mellors’s Instagram and have gotten to watch her book tour in the UK.

“Blue Sisters” follows three sisters as they navigate the grief from the death of their fourth sister and have to try to save the apartment they all grew up in from being sold. “Blue Sisters” was officially released on September 3rd, and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy in the upcoming month.

the city and its uncertain walls by haruki murakami

Translated fiction has recently made its way onto BookTok, and I am obsessed. One of the most well-known Japanese authors with works translated into English is Haruki Murakami, author of “Norwegian Wood” and “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.” My personal favorite Murakami book, from the several I’ve read, is “Hard Boiled Wonderland and The End Of The World,” which features two different storylines and leaves the reader up to interpreting how they are connected.

From what information I’ve been able to gather online, it seems as though “The City” is going to be a companion novel to “Hard Boiled Wonderland”, and I am absolutely ecstatic. I am counting down the days until this release and have already preordered a copy. Although released in Japanese in 2023, the English translation of “The City and Its Uncertain Walls” comes out in November 2024.

Nothing like the movies by lynn painter

Another popular BookTok author is Lynn Painter, known for her romance novel “Better Than The Movies.” Although I have seen mixed reviews on that first novel in her series, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the second installment, “Nothing Like The Movies.

There’s nothing I love more than a romance novel, so what is better than a romance novel centered around characters I already know and adore? Painter’s “Nothing Like The Movies” is set to release on October 23rd, and I might just find time to reread “Better Than The Movies” before picking it up.

The life impossible by matt haig

If you haven’t had the great fortune of reading “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig, I suggest you do so immediately. And if you have, then wait no longer for more Haig!

Haig’s newest novel follows a woman as she explores a home in Ibiza that her recently passed friend left to her. “The Life Impossible” was released on September 3rd, and I will be picking it up the first chance I get.

intermezzo by sally rooney

Although I am equally excited about all these new releases, Sally Rooney’s newest might take the cake. I was a massive fan of “Conversations With Friends,” and I am counting down the minutes until I can get a copy of “Intermezzo.”

“Intermezzo” follows two brothers in the aftermath of their father’s death and how they navigate the romantic and sexual relationships around them. This novel is set to release on September 24th.

2024 is a huge year for book lovers of all kinds. Although this brief list consists of some of the books that most excite me, there are tons coming out this year for all types of readers. It might even be the year that I branch out from my typical genres and pick up something new!
