Everyone has heard of the phrase “freshman 15.” It’s a phrase that puts fear into many freshmen as they embark on their college journey. Here are a few tips to keep off that dreaded freshman 15 all year round.
1. Stop skipping breakfast
The phrase “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” didn’t just come out of thin air. Eating a healthy breakfast helps fuel your body and gets it ready for the long day ahead of you.Â
2. Snack throughout the dayÂ
Stop wasting your money on that overpriced junk food from the vending machine. Go to the store and a variety of things, including fruits, vegetables, protein bars and more!
3. Go to sleep earlier
As weird as it may sound, going to sleep is actually good for you. Sleeping prevents you from gaining weight, so make sure you’re getting at least six hours every night.Â
4. Stay active
Staying active is probably one of the hardest things to do, especially in the winter months. Start walking to class until it gets too cold for you. When winter hits, you can always exercise in your room if that trip to the Rec is just too far.Â
5. Put down the bottle
Maybe you don’t have to put the whole bottle down; just don’t drink all of it. For most college students, going out to the bars is a typical way to relieve stress on the weekends. Unfortunately, you’re drinking hundreds of calories. Cutting down the number of drinks you have is the only way to keep the calories down and your liver from hurting.Â
