Eyebrows are one of the most important features in creating and shaping the face. Makeup brands have focused on producing more and more products to help emphasis the brows. But not all of us are so lucky. My eyebrows don’t exist without my pencil. Thanks to my blonde hair and genetics, they just aren’t there, not visible to the naked eye. However, thanks to the beauty of modern science and technology, there is a solution! Microblading!

What it is essentially: an eyebrow tattoo. Don’t panic, because it’s different than what you’re imagining, not the scary face tattoo that your mother warned you about. Microblading is semi-permanent, and can help sculpt and fill in non-existent or fine brow shapes, saving you precious morning time and energy. And the results are AMAZING. I can’t imagine having the perfect, always even eyebrows every single day.

Generally lasting anywhere from 6 months to 3 years, from all the information I’ve gathered, your eyebrows will fade like any tattoo would. However, some factors such as your skin type, how much you sweat, how much you swim, etc etc can affect how long the procedure holds up. Some other things to consider is the amount of healing time it takes- anywhere from one to four weeks of recovery and care is needed. Your beautician will walk you through all the steps to make sure you get the best lasting results, so make sure to follow their instructions exactly.

Worried about the pain? It’s not what as bad as you think. A numbing cream will be applied to the area, so pain will be reduced. What you can expect is some irritation, itching, or hot sensation for a few hours following the appointment. The appointment itself generally takes about two to three hours, as the beautician has to carefully map out the best shaped eyebrows for your facial structure/features.

The one set-back is the price. An expensive procedure (especially for a college student!), microblading can cost anywhere from $600 to $1,000 depending on the salon and the area. Then again, it’s important to remember that you get what you pay for, and your eyebrows are an essential part of your makeup routine. Can you imagine waking up everyday with flawlessly already-filled-in brows? Oh, the luxury of it all.

Want to see some women who have underwent the experience? I’ve linked a few sites and videos below if you’re interested in the process.  I personally have not had my brows microbladed, but am very strongly attempting to convince myself that this is the best solution- this summer may be the turning point in my eyebrow journey.
