Fuel. Gasoline. Gas. Petrol. Whatever, you choose to call it, chances are you probably hate buying it. Whatever the price is, you pay it, because you have to, right? If you want to go places, you need fuel.
You might remember back in 2008 when gas was below $3 per gallon or you might remember back in 2008 when your parents were up in flames about the price of gas. Say hello to 2013 and gas is above $3 per gallon.
But, wait, does it have to be? No, if you take advantages of great opportunities you can make the price per gallon shrink.
There’s an app called “GasBuddy.” It is available for Android, iPhone, Windows Phone and Blackberry. With this app you can find the cheapest gas locally or while you are traveling. Also, check out the GasBuddy website and you can find where the cheapest gas is in the U.S., the average and the highest. Or, if you want to know anything else about gas head over to the website for some knowledge.
Your local grocery stores, that are a part of a larger chain, might also have some opportunities for you to save on fuel. Lawrence, Kan., has two grocery chains — Hy-vee and Dillons — that offer ways to save.
Dillons fuel program gives you 1 fuel point per $1 that you spend in groceries. So, if you accumulate 100 fuel points that equals 10 cents per gallon of fuel for one fill-up at any Dillons or Kwik Shop gas station. The discount is good for one purchase of fuel up to 35 gallons. With Dillons fuel program you will also save on groceries throughout the store. There is no expiration date for the fuel points earned, and you can also choose how much you redeem at the pump.
Hy-vee’s fuel program is relatively new. Before the new fuel saver program a customer earned a certain amount of points for how much money they spent on groceries, like the Dillons fuel program. The new fuel saver program is made for a college student. Every Wednesday in the new ad there’s a specific section dedicated to grocery items you can earn fuel points on, but not only that the store will also have special promotions that won’t be in the ad. You can earn anywhere form five cents to more than $2 off in one trip to the store. Each purchase is good for 30 days after the purchase date, so you can have rollover points and even save more.
All you need to decide is which fuel program suits you the best.
