Live Life with #noregrets

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Call me a copycat, but I was extremely struck by the tab you can find on the Her Campus main site called #noregrets. You can also call me weird, but all week I’ve been thinking about my freshman year and how it’s ending. Of course I’ve been thinking about finals and papers, but during my study breaks I always seem to go back to that tab. Because I’m going to be one of your lovely bloggers next semester, I thought I should get a head start and give you a few reasons on why I live without regret, and you should too.

#curveballs

Life throws you so many curve balls that just aren’t fair, but I don’t ever regret swinging at them or even sometimes not swinging at all. Each “ball” is a learning experience; you run away, you cry and maybe even scream – and it’s okay. At the beginning of this year, I had a roommate experience that I didn’t expect. I did all of the above and I still left the dorm. Only to move in with the best roommate I could have ever imagined.

Don’t ever think badly of the hands that you have been dealt, I know it’s hard, but it does help with the process of living without regrets. Curveballs are what gives us our stories – if we didn’t have them, we would all be the same. Don’t regret things that make you different and give you a story. Cherish them for the things they taught you – and will teach you for the rest of your life.

#yolo

Okay, so “you only live once” is so overused and so stupid sometimes that I think people miss the point of this epic hashtag. Living without regrets means always loving and living your life to the fullest. If you want to transfer schools, do it. If you want to tell your boss to give credit when credit is due, do it.

Living life to the fullest means never regretting your decisions or feeling as if you’ve wasted your life; As humans, we weren’t created to live lives that were boring or didn’t bring us joy. And the concept of yolo is just that – to live life without any regrets. So live life, and don’t ever regret it, ya’ll.

#learnfrommistakes

Okay, so I mentioned this a little before when I talked about curveballs in the world. But, you could probably consider this something all together different. You are going to make mistakes – it happens and it’s a part of life. But, you don’t have to regret them. For myself, I regretted so many of the mistakes I encountered until I realized I wouldn’t be who I was today without them.

The major part of learning from them is never regretting the bad decisions you’ve made. Always think of the things that you’ve been taught through them. After my roommate situation, I learned how to live with someone and not get into a fight – and that’s a pretty big accomplishment. Mistakes are essentially everything we are, so why make it harder on yourself and regret them?

#beyou

This is so utterly cliché, but it’s true. Living without regrets means all of the above, but is it really worth anything if you can’t be you?

I feel like in every post I write I mention something about this, but I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I’ve made. I regretted, for so many years, changing myself to mold with the popular girls or the cute guys. Until I realized that being me attracted them just as much.

You need to be happy, you need to confident, but you mostly need to be you to never regret who you are and what you can do for the world; And that, ya’ll, is what really matters.

Wow, 636 words and counting. I think that’s a new record.

But, in all honesty, I hope you all don’t ever regret who you are and where you are. Man, I’m being all sentimental up in here. But, I hope you guys enjoyed this – I’m looking forward to writing more stories like this in the future.
