What made you choose KU?

I am from Lawrence, so growing up I would always see KU very close to where I lived. So from the time that I was little all I could think of when I would go here. So when it came time to apply for college it was an easy decision.

Has your experience here been like what you expected?

I came to KU expecting to meet new people, and I have definitely been able to do that.  But I have experienced a lot more things than I thought I would. I’ve had some amazing opportunities on campus and that has definitely been a reason why I have received more than I expected.  The leadership opportunities I had the privilege to be a part of, is something that my freshman self would not believe.

How have you gotten involved on campus?

I was part of Student Union Activities, was Orientation Assistant, and I’m currently involved with KU Dreamers and I’m working for the Office of First-Year-Experience.

How important do you think involvement is at a place like KU?

From my experience, I have been able to meet and work with so many amazing people through my involvement opportunities, which has been great. Being involved allows you to be more aware of what is happening around campus, it helps you figure out what your interests are and finding out more about yourself in the process and finding a support group.

How is being a student while also working for the University?

In my opinion it’s really interesting. I think it’s great how I can go from being in a classroom and learning and then go to the Office of First-Year Experience and be able to see the work behind the scenes of how new Jayhawks get to KU.

What makes KU unique, in your experience?

It is unique in the way that even though campus is so big, when you’re walking around campus to go to class or somewhere else, there is often a familiar face that you can say a quick greeting while making your way to your destination.

What advice would you give to students coming into the University?

I would say that they should come to KU with an open mind and be willing to step out of their comfort zones in order to continue to grow as a person during their time at KU.

How has KU shaped your future goals?

From being here at KU, I have learned and gathered a lot of information that it made me rethink a lot of things. I have changed my major quiet a few times, so there has definitely been a change since freshman year. I would say that from getting to know myself better, I was able to figure out what exactly I wanted to do with my future and KU has definitely been an influence on that.

What do you plan on doing after KU?

After I am finished with my undergrad, I plan on going to law school. Not sure where yet, but KU is definitely an option.
