We’re approaching the second half of the spring semester, so things are about to start getting busy. With looming project deadlines and finals in just a few weeks, spring break is the perfect amount of time to get refreshed and be ready to go. Spring break, however, often gives us a sweet little taste of summer that we aren’t all too ready to let go of. This can make the transition back into school after break difficult. Here are a couple ways to spring right back into the academic mindset you’ve been building up all semester. Relax, you’ve got this.

keep your routine

For most of us, break means getting up later and going to sleep in the early hours of the morning. Your brain deserves all that extra rest. Just remember, when school starts back up, try your best to get right back into your previous schedule. Wake up, eat breakfast, and go to all your classes. Starting off this half of the semester by skipping will not set you up for success. Your body will thank you for your days laying on the beach, but it will also know how to get you back into your normal routine.

Set small goals

You might not be quite ready to take on an army of essays your first day back. Set small goals at first to get back into the swing of things. Maybe Monday you’re going to get that discussion post and chemistry assignment done. Tuesday you’ll handle your short answer response questions for public speaking. You can ramp it up from there, but start off small. Don’t put yourself at immediate risk for burnout or feeling overwhelmed. You’ll have plenty of that leading up to finals week.

make time to relax

Relaxing during spring break shows you how much your body needs it. Block out time in your busy schedule to spend just relaxing without guilt. Do whatever that means for you: reading a book, watching a show, or taking a nap. The last few weeks of the semester are difficult, and you deserve to let yourself recharge. It’s just as important as studying.

enjoy the weather

Going for a quick walk outside, playing pickleball, or studying on your porch are all great ways to take advantage of the warm spring weather. Boost your mood and serotonin levels. You survived a winter full of winter storms, so let this weather be your reward. Don’t underestimate the positive things that going outside once in a while can do for you.

Don’t stress about springing back into the spring semester. You may not start off with the most motivation, but you’ll get there. While you’re posting your new beach pictures, remember to practice post-spring break self-care.
