Summer is probably my least favorite season of the year. It’s just months of constantly being sweaty and sticky whether you are just standing outside, laying in bed or anything in between. It never ends and it is the worst. However summer does have its upsides, it gives you the time to do some of the stuff you can’t do during the school year.
Â
As an English major, I love reading, especially when it is on my own time with a book I am actually interested in. However, I never have time to read during the school semester. Summer is the perfect time to catch up on that reading list you have been forming throughout the year.
Â
Get back to going to the gym. I know that personally when school starts getting busy, my daily gym routine is one of the first things that has to go. It’s not that I don’t want to go, but at the end of the day when I have to choose between getting one or two more hours of work in or going to work out, I try to make the right call. Summer is the perfect time to devote some of that down time to getting back to the gym.
Â
Work work work! Earn that money. Not only will this allow you to do some fun activities during the summer, but it will also help when you have some extra money saved up when school starts back up again. You won’t have to be working so hard to keep up with the rent and bills.
Â
Get back to that self care. That is another thing that slips as the school year goes on. Be kind to yourself and get back into making sure your body is being taken care of.
Â
During the busy school year, some friends become more convenient to see and hang out with than others, for any number of reasons. During the summer, take the time to reconnect with some of the friends who you could never quite find the time to meet up with during the year.
Â
Road trip it up! Whether you are gathering some friends to go somewhere or heading out to see an old friend who doesn’t live in town, make the trip! I never have time for this during the semester and am always down to hit the road and see some sites and friends for a few days.
Summer is not at all my favorite time of the year. In fact, it is my least favorite time. So when you are looking for something to do in that scorching heat, remember everything you didn’t have time for during the school year and start making a dent in that list.
