What I Didn’t Miss About KU Over Summer Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

There’s a lot to love about the college experience at KU, whether it be the beautiful campus, basketball games at Allen Fieldhouse, or the mighty Crunchy Chicken Cheddar Wrap.

However, there are some aspects of campus life that, I must admit, had me counting down the days to summer break:

The KU Buses

The KU buses were responsible for many near-meltdowns of mine over the course of last school year. Often, I was driven to a near-hysterical state as I waited in the freezing cold for the Red 43, only for it drive past my stop already filled to the brim with Daisy Hill residents from the previous stop. Also, people in the aisle of a crowded bus who wouldn’t move further back to make room for more passengers made me lose more and more faith in humanity with each passing day.

Please just please, KU buses and fellow passengers, don’t make me do another walk of shame across the auditorium because I’m late to class.

Hiking Up Daisy Hill

I can think of no better way to end an exhausting day of classes than to trudge up a steep hill to my residence hall with twenty-five pounds of textbooks on my back.

On the bright side, though, my calves have never looked better than since I started going to KU.

Parking

It’s true when they say that parking at a college campus is an extreme sport. It had me praying to the gods of parking for a close spot—and that I wasn’t in a restricted zone. Those parking tickets hurt.

The Lines

I truly don’t understand how people have the patience to wait in line at the Underground every day during its rush hour. Even the lunch and dinner rush at E’s had me pulling out my hair as I waited in that Tex Mex line. The queso made it all worth it though.
