Wow. This last week I enrolled in my last semester of college. I think it’s finally hit me, and if it hasn’t yet for any of you seniors out there, it will. Just wait.
Don’t get me wrong. I am so freakishly excited to see the light at the end of this long, higher education tunnel. But I am going to miss so much of what I have grown to call “home.”
“Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone?”
Isn’t that a great line? Thanks, I made it up. Just kidding, I really didn’t, but do wish I had.
How many times have you caught yourself reminiscing the past? Well, we all do it, and of course it’s a perfectly normal and harmless act, but how great would it be to take a moment for what it is and hold it so close that nothing can escape from it? Maybe we should lift our faces from our smart phones as we’re walking to class and actually look up at the fluffy, marshmallow-like clouds. Notice how the red rooftops seamlessly blend in with the beautiful autumn leaves. Because before you know it, this will all be a memory.
I can’t be the only one who feels this way. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Counting Crows knows what I’m talking about.
Clearly, I still have a few months of class before my final semester, but I want to make sure I enjoy this series of lasts of my college career. I want to go to exhibits, attend concerts, stay up all night with friends, and eat food that should NOT be fried. But most importantly, I want all of you to enjoy it as well. No matter if you’re a freshman, deciding what 100 level gen-eds you want to take, or a senior, trying to fit everything in before that glorious walk down the hill. We are all experiencing moments we will remember for a lifetime.
Life moves pretty fast. My high school senior-self can strongly attest to that. I can honestly say I never imagined graduating college; it was all such a far-off dream. But within eight short months, it will become a reality. What will I do? Where will I live? While these are important and essential questions for laying out the future, it’s equally as important to focus on the now.
So take advantage of each minute of each hour of each day. Because “Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone?”
