Easter eggs you may have missed in Taylor Swift’s “Lavender Haze” music video

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

Released on Friday, January 27, the third music video from her album Midnights contains many references to other songs on the album and possibly some of her past albums.

  1. “Mastermind” vinyl

A vinyl for her song “Mastermind” can be seen on the ground in one shot. The cover features the star signs of her and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn:, Sagittarius and Pisces. Other vinyls can be seen underneath;, one in particular looks a lot like the album cover of her record Speak Now.

  1. The weather forecast

This section alone features several different easter eggs. In some areas, the weather calls for rain at midnight, a reference to her song “Midnight Rain”. Swift watches her lover on the screen, reminding fans of the lyric from her song “Karma:” “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me.” Finally Swift’s lucky number 13 can be seen over Nashville, her home state, and Michigan, the location of her former boyfriend Taylor Lautner’s hometown. “Back to December” off her album Speak Now is widely known to be about the couple and this is likely a hint that the rerecording for Speak Now is coming soon.

  1. The incense

Incense can be seen on a shelf holding vinyls, a literal reference to a lyric in her song “Maroon” which begins with: “When the morning came we were cleaning incense off your vinyl shelf / ‘Cause we lost track of time again.”

  1. The flower field

Taylor can be seen laying in a field of lavender which is extremely reminiscent of the music video for “Our Song” released about 13 years ago.

  1. The fish

Koi fish can be seen swimming outside her window, which calls back to a guitar Swift played on her world tour for Speak Now, yet another obvious hint that it may be her next rerecording. Additionally, at the end of the video, it is revealed that Swift is actually inside of a fishbowl, a parallel to her music video for her song “Lover” for her album of the same name. In that video she is swimming in a fishbowl with her love interest.
