Jake Peralta: Support the ones you love
Jake has a tendency to want to go off and do things his way, especially way back in season one, but as time goes on he learns how to delegate and to help his friends when they ask him to help them. Initially, he would take over their cases, as he had with Boyle when they were working a case together. By the end of the episode, he ends up handing apologizing and following his friend’s lead.
Amy Santiago: Hard work pays off
Throughout the series, Amy is usually teased for being a nerd, but is that a bad thing? No! With her hard work, she’s made herself into one of the precincts best detectives. Frequently, she and Jake will compete (good naturally of course) to see who has better arrest stats. Amy always makes some sort of a plan of action, whatever it may be.
Captain Raymond Holt: Injustice is everywhere, keep fighting
Holt (my second favorite character on the show) had to fight through being a black gay cop in the 80s. His determination brought him up through the chain of command to become the captain of 9-9. He frequently references his past and makes sure to show his detectives that they can get through their difficulties.
Rosa Diaz: Be selective in who you let into your life
My love, my QUEEN! Rosa Diaz (as you can see she is my favorite character) frequently makes comments about not wanting anyone to know anything about her. Most would see this as a bad thing, but is it? No, because she’s being selective about who she lets herself care about. As she gets closer to her friends, she makes smaller comments about not wanting to lose them. She starts to trust them with letting them into her life and in turn, her protective instincts for her friends get bigger and bigger.
Gina Linetti: Be confident in yourself
Literally, Gina is a badass who does not let negativity get to her. She’s always got something going on and she never lets people get to her. Even when they tell her she can’t do something, she goes and does what she can to prove them wrong. When Holt, Amy and Jake were having a competition, she proved that just because she’s not a cop, she’s still able to be a badass.
Terry Jeffords: No matter where you start from, you can do anything
Terry brings up the fact that was once an obese man. He fought hard to lose the weight and make himself heavy. Now, Terry Crews might not have come from that but the sentiment from there. With where he’s come from, he’s become the 9-9’s sergeant.
Hitchcock & Scully: Find someone who has your back
The best thing about these guys, other than being the gross uncles of the 9-9, but they work together and always have each others back. Never do they do something without the other. They stand together and work their cases while leaning on one another.
Charles Boyle: Follow your passions
Admittedly, I don’t like Charles, he gets on my nerves, but I admire his perseverance. He’s frequently the butt of the jokes in the 9-9 but he just rolls with it. His passion for food is, at times, the saving grace to some of the cases that they’ve encountered. You’re passions can and will, be a major part of your person. Don’t give up on them.
If you haven’t seen Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I highly recommend that you do. It’s available to watch on Hulu.
