We can always count on TikTok to start trends and make practically anything go viral. Within the last few months, the French TV show, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, started trending on TikTok. Back in 2015, the show aired and was my guilty pleasure. As a 15-year old, I was lowkey embarrassed about my obsession with a show meant for kids. Despite this, the show grew a good following of people around my age. We were a small community of fans and shared our love for this show. I’m not sure what it is about this show that captured my attention, but I do know that it makes me happy seeing this show blow up all over social media. Now, high schoolers and college students alike are spending their time watching and talking about the show. What was once a hidden gem and my guilty pleasure is being enjoyed by a wider audience.Â
The show takes place in Paris and tells the story of Marinette. While on the outside she appears to just be an artistic, clumsy, and awkward teenage girl, she’s also Ladybug, a superhero. Ladybug fights alongside her witty partner, Cat Noir, to maintain Paris safe from villains such as Hawk Moth. Together they’re an unstoppable team, but when their powers wear off, they’re back to living as Marinette and Adrien. Their identities are kept a secret not only from the world but also from each other. If only Marinette knew her flirtatious partner, whom she constantly rejects, is also her long-time crush.Â
Miraculous is available on Netflix and YouTube. Recently, Disney+ also acquired all three seasons and plans to release season 4 (2021) and 5 (2022). If you’re looking for a cute show to watch, check out Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.
