Rewatch podcasts are skyrocketing in popularity, with audiences eager to hear the stories behind their favorite childhood TV shows. Since podcasts sport fairly low production costs and large pre-existing audiences, producers are pouncing on the opportunity to discuss pre-existing content using a new medium. And man are they delivering. Former Disney Channel star Christy Carlson Romano (Kim Possible, Even Stevens) and her husband Brendan Rooney have started a new podcast network, PodCo, which features shows hosted by some of your favorite Disney and Nickelodeon stars. The following line-up will leave you listening to on-set stories for hours:
Vulnerable was the first podcast Romano started after YouTube videos of her talking about her experiences as a child star blew up. Romano interviews fellow Disney Channel alumni about the darker parts of the industry, as well as up-and-coming stars on what’s changed in popular culture and what hasn’t. Notable guests include Monique Coleman (High School Musical, Guidance), Alyson Stoner (Camp Rock, Phineas and Ferb), and Mattel Television’s Manager of Creative Content Mattel Teale.
Ned’s Declassified Podcast Survival Guide features the main trio, consisting of Devon Werkheiser, Lindsey Shaw, and Daniel Curtis Lee, as they recap each half-episode of hijinks. The group have had no guests on the podcast at the time of publication, but their dynamics don’t require one. They’re not afraid to approach subjects that many other podcasts avoid, from getting an on-set tutor fired to discussing the dangers surrounding the casting couch.
Wizards of Waverly Pod is hosted by Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise. The pair’s explosive energy and enthusiasm is so pure and contagious. Selena Gomez guest stars on the show’s fourth episode, and fellow cast members David Henrie and Maria Canals-Barrera have been teased to appear as well.
I Hear Voices features Christy Carlson Romano and fellow Kim Possible star Will Friedle as they interview famous voice actors. A lot of voice actors don’t get to see the spotlight, and this podcast serves as a way for an underrated part of the entertainment industry to really shine. Famous guests include Phineas and Ferb co-creator Dan Povenmire, Lauren Tom (Futurama, Codename: Kids Next Door), and Andrea Romano (Avatar the Last Airbender, Animaniacs). They’re also currently airing a nationwide contest to find the “next big voice actor,” a really cool way of interacting with their audience and opening the industry doors to new talent.
Even More Stevens is hosted by Christy Carlson Romano, Nick Spano, and Steven Anthony Lawrence. The newest of PodCo’s productions, the trio have currently covered the first two episodes and discussed where they think their characters are now. Jam-packed with behind-the-scenes info, audition stories, and deep conversations, it’s definitely a must-watch for fans of the original TV show.
Brotherly Love features early 2000s’ heartthrobs Andrew, Matthew, and Joey Lawrence. While the trio were on the titular TV show together, their podcast focuses on a different theme each week. From navigating fame as a family to setting healthy boundaries, the brothers discuss their dynamics and struggles.
