The CW is well known for their crossover events, but on March 29th, they took it to a whole other level. Supernatural was pulled into the world of Scooby Doo. The Winchester brothers and Castiel got the chance to interact with Mystery Inc. Most of the episode was animated in the classic Scooby Doo style, and every minute of it was glorious.
The CW has spent months publicizing this crossover event. And yes, while the episode itself was fantastic, there is one that certainly surpasses it all. In the past, Supernatural’s cast has proven their commitment to giving back to society. From the Always Keep Fighting Campaign and their efforts to raise money for hurricane Harvey victims, they have all worked tirelessly to be charitable. So Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins teamed up for another cause, like the beautiful, generous souls they are. By teaming up with Hot Topic, they have a released limited edition Supernatural and Scooby Doo Merchandise. On March 29th, a portion of the sales from the Scoobynatural line was donated to Random Acts and Attitudes in Reverse. Random Acts is a non-profit organization that wants to spread acts of kindness all around the world. Attitudes in Reverse is a volunteer organization that wants to bring awareness to adolescent mental health.
Now, read on to see my reaction to Scoobynatural. (SPOILERS BELOW).
Right away, the audience is thrown into the action of the episode with Sam and Dean Winchester battling a possessed stuffed dinosaur. The fun really begins when they find themselves pulled into the television and are turned into cartoons. It isn’t long until they discover Scooby and the gang. Dean quickly manages to get Sam to agree to join the gang for their next mystery. They end up staying in an old mansion where Scooby Doo is in line to inherit one million dollars. If you have watched Scooby Doo, Where are You, then you might recognize this storyline. That’s because this is based off of the episode A Night of Fright is No Delight.
Throughout the episode Dean is a little—okay, actually very—excited to be a part of the Scooby Doo world. He throws himself into it full heartedly. If anything, his enthusiasm made it even better. While Dean did try to do his hunters duty of protecting people and destroying monsters, he spent most of his time wooing Daphne, or at least attempting to. Of course, Supernatural featured all of the classic Scooby moments, such as large amounts of eating, the failed traps, and the iconic unmasking scene. And, if you watch closely to one of the montage scenes, you might even spot a cameo of a little pup running around. Oh Supernatural, your attention to detail gives me life. The only thing that was missing was a Scooby Doo style intro, but alas, nothing can ever be completely perfect. If you are a fan of either Mystery Inc. or the Winchester Bros, then this is a must-see for you.
