Medusa
The story of her has long been told
Thinking of her as the venomous villain
Not knowing what lay beneath a story that seemed so old
She was a beautiful maidenÂ
Priestess of AthenaÂ
She as a child had troubles awaken
Losing her loved ones
Being beaten and confused
The pain was something she grew into
All of that didn’t calm her turmoiled drums
Poseidon came along as a surprise, not the good kind
Touched by him and deemed impure
Instead of the punishment to fall on him
Athena blamed Medusa for intercourse ill-timed
Quickly then Medusa had changed
Long silk hair started to hiss and sliverÂ
Skin now green and scaly
Don’t even try to look in her eyes, that’s a dangerous game
Her whole demeanor toward people had rearranged
All of this to protect herself
Now it’s a cautionary taleÂ
To the outside world, she was a monster
Yet there was so much more to know
Don’t let the fear make you turn away
She just wanted people to stay
The world around her broke her heartÂ
Be the one that is set apart
This is just one covered up storyÂ
Imagine having the hate, but never the glory
A lesson to us all
Maybe this time victims rise instead of fall
