La Salle’s Very Own Nail Salon!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at La Salle chapter.

If you’re like me, you enjoy the finer things in life. And because we’re all college student, we must do it on a budget. This means at home care, face masks, body scrubs, and nice scented lotions. But what about our nails? Regular polish is great, most of the time but  it’s stressful when you have to paint your dominate hand. If you’re a gel-kind of girl, those polishes are expensive, and what if you have a crappy gel lamp? And WHO knows how to do acrylics by themselves?

Rebecca Schafer does.

Rebecca is a junior here at La Salle, Lieutenant of the Crew team, and an International Business major. She, like many other college students is looking to make money any way she can. So, she does nails.

She offers full sets of acrylics ($15), fill-ins ($10), gel manicures ($15), and regulars manicures ($5- they also come with a hand massage!). “I just think about what I would be able to pay if I wanted to get my nails done, but I still want to make a profit,” Rebecca says. “Being a business major helped me decide”.

Even though she’s an “amateur”, Rebecca has all the equipment necessary for her services and  she used her own money to pay for it all. She bought most of her products off of Amazon, because they were the right balance between affordable and high quality. Her nail drill was highly recommended buy nail techs and Youtubers, and only set her back $30.  She also bought a $30- dollar gel lamp, acrylic powder/monomer ($16), and primer ($8). In her research and through trial and error, she learned that the better the acrylic brush is, the better the nails come out. So, she invested in a more expensive brush, coming close to $30. The La Salle nail tech uses her profits from doing nails to refill her products and build her nail polish collection (high-end and drugstore )

Rebecca’s collection has polishes from Sinful Colors (her favorite), O.P.I, Orly, Essie, China Glaze, Wet-and-Wild, and a few others. She also has nail accessories like gems and glitter. She can also do designs. Everything is on the display with the same kind of display tips you see at salons!

It’s not your average at home salon. You can see some of Rebecca’s work on her “business Instagram”, @_justthetips . You can DM her to make an appointment at her off-campus apartment. Her work has also been recognized by major polish companies like Orly and O.P.I.!

“I don’t want people to be afraid to DM me. I think they think it’s weird but it’s the best way for me to make appointments. I don’t want to just put my phone number out there,” Rebecca explains.

So, what are you waiting for? Make your appointment today!
