Education has been my passion since before I knew what “passion” meant. It is what drives me, challenges me, and pushes me to be my best self. As a little girl, I would play school with my friends. Teaching them how to scribble on the chalkboard, led to teaching them how to spell, teaching them how to write a story. I would pick up a pencil and draw or write, pursuing my creativity.
My heart knew, before I truly knew, that I was destined to be an educator. And I aspire to be a teacher that will inspire our future generations.
In order to be the teacher of change I aspire to be, it is important to acknowledge the wonderful teachers I have had in my own schooling.
Mrs. Godwin, 4th grade
She had this genuine kindness that made every student feel welcome and that they belonged. Her sweet way gave each student comfort, allowing us to share anything in a safe space.
I hope to bring the same amount of patience and kindness into my future classroom, allowing my students to feel that they are in a space that they can share anything without judgment.
Mr. Gay, 9th grade
For the first time in my schooling, Social Studies was fun! He made the course interactive and intriguing, leaving us wishing the class wasn’t over already.
Social Studies has never been my strong suit, but when there are interactive ways to learn the information, I find myself learning so much better. I want to bring this different approach to learning to my own students.
Dr. Bednar, La Salle, Freshman Year
This class was difficult, required a lot of hard work and attention to detail. Dr. Bednar didn’t let me slack off when she knew I could do better, she kept me accountable, and constantly challenged me.
I thrive on solving challenges, and Dr. Bednar knew this about me. I hope to challenge my students to do their best work and to be their best selves.
By being a student, I have been able to reflect on what it means to be a quality teacher. I have been blessed to have many amazing teachers throughout the years, ones who have taught me much of what I want to teach my future students. So, thank you to all my teachers who have gotten me to where I am today.
