For us worrywarts, nearly every encounter can leave us feeling awkward, unsure of ourselves and having second thoughts. Fortunately, not everything is worth those tummy-twisting feelings that you get in certain situations. With college underway, and our stress levels higher than ever, it is time to loosen up and realize that not everything is worth your peace of mind.

College, and all of our young adult life for that matter, is a learning experience, so stop stressing and go through the next few years taking each moment as it comes.

Too often after a conversation or a quick exchange with a teacher or acquaintance, those of us who are self-conscious will rethink every word they said, and facial expression they made. Did that sound sassy? Did I roll my eyes? Did he take that the wrong way? What you thought was a big deal, they probably didn’t notice, and is probably just coming from your paranoia.

Awkward moments, something most of us know all too well, are overhyped and are not worth the headache they cause. Sure, tripping over the curb, farting in class, wearing pants you did not know were see-through, or waving at someone who was actually waving at the person behind you, are all situations college students are not unfamiliar with. Lets face it, everyone has been there and no one will remember next week… or next month.

Many of us have those memories of that kid in fourth grade that burped and was humiliated when the whole class laughed, but after all of these years all they do is give us a good laugh.

Worrying isn’t good for your mental health and it is impossible to go back in time and change something that has happened. Embrace your awkward moments, learn from situations and move on. Don’t let the worrywart side of you come out, you aren’t as embarrassing as you think.
