Tired of the Same Old Gym Routine? Try a Group Fit Class!

So you’re back on campus here at Lafayette and have settled into something that feels like a routine. In between classes, homework, sports, and all the clubs that you’re involved in, you are either stressed out or want to find more things to do! Well, look no further! Here’s the scoop on all of the group fit classes offered here at Lafayette.

 

What are the group fit classes you ask? Unlike the normal gym sesh you might have, these are group opportunities to work with a trained instructor and learn some new moves. Lafayette offers these classes to students free of charge (read: included in your tuition). Below is a useful calendar of events to schedule in!

 

BODYPUMP™

A fitness class that uses barbells (you choose your own weight!) to work all of your major muscle groups. Not sure if you’ll like it or want a quick workout? Try BODYPUMP™ Express! It is 30 minutes instead of a full hour, but you’ll still have a great workout!

 

BODYSCULPT

Utilize all of your muscles in this class, whic focuses on toning. Use of dumbbell weights and tubing creates amazing results!

        

CYCLE 30/45

This cycling class will get your heart pumping for 30 to 45 minutes each time. An indoor cycling bike allows you to climb, sprint, and train while listening to awesome music. Emily says “I like going on Tuesdays because it fits into my schedule and I love the instructor!”

 

CIRCUIT + CORE

A cardio and weight resistance class that teaches you proper form and technique using Kettlebells, barbells, and more! If you are looking for an amazing total body workout, this is for you!

 

DanCSS

Time to sweat!!! DanCSS is a super fun, cardio-aerobics style class that helps improve your coordination and your health.

 

POUND®

A dance-inspired class that changes it up by rocking out! A super welcoming class that is a great way to relieve stress. Marua says “I really like it because I played instruments my whole life and it is also a great way to work out! We do a lot of squats and the drumming distracts you from that. I think more people should go!”

 

PowerPUMP + ABs

Similar to CIRCUIT + CORE, PowerPUMP is a class that utilizes both strength and cardio conditioning, with a focus on your abs! If you’re loking for a full body workout, this is the class for you!

 

Strength & Conditioning

A total-body bootcamp-inspired workout using your bodyweight or light dumbbells.

 

VINYASA YOGA

Experience sun salutations, a range of standing, seated and balanced postures, breath practices and a closing relaxation.  Work through “moving meditation” followed by relaxation in this amazing class!

 

YOGA TONE

Set the tone for the day with an energizing vinyasa yoga flow—awaken your body through mindful movement and attention to breathing. Increase your flexibility, gain body tone & improve your posture with a relaxed and clear mind.

 

ZUMBA®

Zumba is interval cardio and resistance training to an irresistible beat.  Maximize caloric burning, fat burning and body toning all while dancing the stress away! Renna says that “Zumba is super fun because everyone that goes gets to know the dances and you get good at them. I was a little self-conscious at first because I can’t dance, but nobody really can but it is fine.”

 

You can easily sign up for these classes using your student credentials on the IMLeagues website, or you can download the app! I use the app because it is so much more convenient. Available for both iPhones and Androids, download the app, then sign in using your Lafayette credentials. Press the triple bar in the upper left corner, and then press ‘Group Fit.’Enjoy amazing access to these wonderful opportunities on our campus and stay fit!
