I don’t know about you but around mid-way through November when all the Christmas adverts are released it really starts to feel festive. The famous build up to the John Lewis Christmas advert each year almost has me getting out the Heroes tin, Christmas pyjamas and Michael Bublé album: even if it is only November.
This year was no exception, I was so excited to watch the advert and maybe you disagree, but I was kind of disappointed. I see what they were trying to do with the relatability of monsters under the bed and feeling like a child at Christmas. But to me it wasn’t a John Lewis Christmas Advert, it didn’t give me that warm, festive feeling or the ‘awww’ at the end. I wanted to make me feel emotional and it just didn’t. Quite frankly, it seems more like a commercial opportunity for John Lewis to sell an abundance of plush monster toys this Christmas.
In true Christmas spirit however, here’s a few of my favourite Christmas adverts of 2017.
1. Heathrow Bears – Closer this Christmas
(Image: businessinsider.com)
Following the love story of two adorable teddy bears this advert really captivates the magic of Christmas time in airport, reuniting with loved ones and the miracles of this tie of the year. I love the message of flying closer to someone not just somewhere for Christmas and the addition of the teddies really does give this advert the ‘aww’ factor.

2. Very – Get More Out Of Giving
(Image: tvadsongs.uk)
Maybe I just like cuddly toys but it seems so does the little girl in this advert. Accompanied by her furry wolf friend the advert shows her delivery of her Christmas gifts which personally, giving gifts is one of my favourite parts of Christmas. But perhaps what is so lovely about the story of the girl and her wolf is the snowy expedition they have together, getting more out of giving which leaves her with the best gift of all: adventure.

3. House Of Fraser – Bring Merry Back
(Image: campaignlive.co.uk)
I think what we all love about Christmas is the traditions and memories we have each year resulting from bringing the family together. The advert looks at two sister’s present and past Christmases showing how even though we grow and change, the love and spirit of Christmas stays the same and alive in our traditions. Lots of sibling love in this ad!

4. Debenhams – #YouShall Find Your Fairytale
(Image: standard.co.uk)
A modern-day spin on Cinderalla, a much loved love story incorporating the modern day technologies we are so used to, and who doesn’t love a happy ending? Although a very predictable advert, the snowy romantic magic makes you want your own Christmas fairytale.

5. Boots – #ShowThemYouKnowThem
(Image: standard.co.uk)
I have always loved buying Christmas presents for people because of the feeling I get when they open them and I know they will love it. Although this takes a lot of preparation it really is the best when you can someone you love them through giving a thoughtful gift. The boots advert doesn’t really give the ‘aww’ feeling but I could really relate to it and I love the message of #ShowThemYouKnowThem.

6. Waitrose – Christmas Together
(Image: standard.co.uk)
It’s probably hard as a supermarket to create a magical Christmas advert that focuses on their products (food) but also tell a story yet Waitrose manage to do this. Trapped in a country inn, the advert shows how people come together to create a Christmas feast and watching the advert you almost want to be trapped their with them.

What are your favourite Christmas adverts of this year or maybe of all time? I think I will always be into the John Lewis Christmas Ad hype however this year I’ve learnt to give other brands some love.
The Ads are out, December is upon us. It’s really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
