Handing in my dissertation was a relief for many reasons, but one thing I’m really looking forward to (now that it no longer lingers), is spying what you Lancaster gals and guys have been wearing. I’ve rather had to put my ‘Spotting!’ on hold so have instead been wistfully eyeing up spring/summer trends online, and I know exactly what I want to see on campus as the new season commences.
We had a few glimmers of sunshine, and hopefully that’s enough for the famous Lancaster campus ducks to come out, as well as your new purchases and hopefully some legs…we can’t guarantee goose-bump free though!
The clumpier and, well, uglier your sandals can get the better this summer, apparently. I was a fan of the flatform last summer, and it seems to be continuing into S/S 2014, but this time strappier, brighter, and yes, even clumpier. Who are we to argue against comfy fashion? The few I’ve pictured below come from a variety of shops, but will hopefully provide some inspo to go with the other trends suggested later on…
Looking online, two colours seem to be dominating every website. We loved that deep cobalt blue last year, and it appears to be going nowhere, but this summer, it’s being partnered with a gorgeous, light, lemony yellow. I’m thinking lemon meringue pie on a cloud- (yes, I have been stuck inside writing 10,000 for a while now!)
Take a look at how magically the two colours blend, and, even better, imagine how great any garment in these colours will go with your age-old denim shorts or summery white jeans.
I have always been a big fan of anything textured, and while my mum tactfully described them as ‘condom-like’, I can’t get enough of all the ribbed jumpers there are about. Topshop has a great selection at reasonable prices and the ‘throw-it-on’ slouchiness combined with the thick and slightly structured fabric means you can buy up a size or two and still channel some effortless comfy glamour. And besides…if Hustle proved too much last night, pop it on for hungover style with some whopping great sunnies!
Every year, I vow to wear more skirts. I think they look fabulous on others and have built up quite a collection of my own, yet when I put them on, I’m usually left on the bus worrying that my tights are falling down or it’s tucked into my underwear and pining for my safe skinny jeans! Well, here’s a gorgeous selection of outfits- all including skirts from Topshop, H & M, River Island and other high street shops so super accessible! If these can’t convince me to flash my pins, I don’t know what will!
So to sum up: keep your pastels out, opt for white (maybe stick to the vanilla ice cream!) and textured layering will keep your looks fresh and ready for the sunshine. I can’t wait to see which of my favourite trends will be featured on the Lancaster campus runway!
