As London fashion week closed on Tuesday and with Milan starting on Wednesday it has been a busy week in the world of any Ugly Betty, so I thought I would give you a rundown of the top five hottest trends appearing on the catwalk this Spring/Summer season.
1. The Tantalising Trench Coat
Are you an aspiring Sherlock? If so, then youâre in luck as trench coats are back and theyâre hotting up the catwalk. Aquascatum, a Hong-Kong owned rain-wear and tailoring brand which was founded in Mayfair, London in 1851 debuted their new collection this week at London Fashion Week in the most glamorous and sexy way. Their models donned stunning fitted trench coats whilst sipping champagne and lounging around a Georgian Townhouse backdrop, if that doesnât make you want to become some sort of sexy Inspector Gadget this spring, what would?
2. Sexy Seaside Stripes
Go all Dick Van Dyke in Chitty this Spring and wear all types of stripe, London and New Yorkâs catwalk saw lotâs of striped patterned collections this year and weâre liking it. Margaret Howell at last yearâs fashion week brought bold navy striped shirts to the catwalk which we loved (Zara is the perfect place to find this look) so we only hoped somebody would bring the stripe back this year and Palmer Harding, âThe Shirt Boysâ did not disappoint; venturing out of their comfort zone of plain thin lined stripes and showcasing a collection of cute pastel, striped and loose fitted shirts which are beautiful for the spring/summer season.
3. Jungle Chic
Now, if you loved the fashion choices of Lara Croft you are going to die for this trend of cool toned khaki. As we all know one of Kimmy Kâs faves is anything the shade of an emergency plaster and it appears fashion week is loving it too. Neutral hues are everywhere and one of our faves were from the designer Ulla Johnsonâs utilitarian feel collection which had tucked and nipped waists and femme ruffles.
4. And it was all yellowâŠ
Itâs what the magazines are calling the âmost optimistic colour of the seasonâ, with streaks of yellow appearing on every catwalk this February and weâre not mad about it. Yellow is the colour of happiness and positivity and we all need that in our lives, especially right now, am I right? I know I do, with dissertation ruining my life I will definitely be buying something yellow to brighten up the long days sat behind my computer screen. Plus yellow is perfect for that little Easter Sunday Lunch with the family or a date night at a summer wedding, donât you think?
5. The Statement Sleeve
Since Christmas there has been a definite shift in sleeve length and width on a lot of shirts and dresses and it would seem it was all in preparation for the new SS17 collections. Some designers had the sleeves long and flowing, some had them with slits and some had them rolled up, you name it LFW saw every type of sleeve this week and still weâre not mad about it. The embroidered shirt that is all the range at the moment definitely looks amazing with a flared sleeve, itâs so easy to dress up for a night out with the girls or dress down for an important work meeting, it really is quite versatile and weâre excited for the new take on this 80âs flare vibe this Spring.
There you have it, your run down of the beginning of the new fashion season! Hopefully some warm sunny weather will grace Lancs and we can all give these trends a go.
